Boston moves to mandate city insurance coverage for 'transgenders'

The militant homosexual movement's multi-pronged assault on truth, rationality and freedom continues to steamroll across our nation. One of its latest fronts to emerge is in the area of so-called "transgenderism." We are seeing more and more pushes for laws that seek to validate and accommodate people who have this mental and spiritual disorder.

MassResistance reported on Wednesday that two women on the Boston City Council proposed an ordinance that would mandate the city only enter into contracts with insurance companies that do not "discriminate" against "gender identity or expression." In other words, Boston wants its city employee insurance to cover hormone "therapy" and "sex reassignment" surgery for people who delusionally believe they are members of the opposite sex.

From the MassResistance report:

[The ordinance] was introduced by City Councilors Michelle Wu and Ayanna Pressley, two of the most liberal on an already left-wing Boston City Council. They worked closely with local homosexual activists, according to press reports. Boston Mayor Marty Walsh, an aggressive pro-homosexual advocate, told the press that he is "wholeheartedly in support" of it.

It was applauded by the usual crowd. "This ordinance is a pivotal step toward ensuring that transgender city workers have access to comprehensive healthcare coverage just like all other city workers," Kara Coredini, Executive Director of the LGBT lobbying group MassEquality, told the press.

In the same despicable way that the atrocious "Obamacare" law forces American citizens to fund abortion, this ordinance would force taxpayers in Massachusetts to fund body mutilation surgery for mentally ill people, under the guise of it being "heathcare." This is truly demented.

To their credit a couple of Boston media outlets covered the reaction of MassResistance's Brian Camenker, perhaps the only voice of reason offered in their coverage. He was quoted in the Boston Globe and featured on Boston's WCVB Channel 5. From the Boston Globe story:

Not everyone sees the proposed ordinance as positive, or agrees that hormones and surgery are proper treatment for those who identify as transgender. The leader of MassResistance, a nonprofit conservative advocacy group in Waltham, called the proposed ordinance "a sad example of science fiction over science."

"The medical community has always considered 'gender identity' confusion as a mental health issue," said Brian Camenker, executive director of MassResistance. "Attempting to 'treat' someone with sex hormones or body mutilating surgery may please the political activists but only makes things much worse for the individual."

While the radical homosexual activists claim that sexual mutilation surgery and hormone "therapy" is good for people who think they're the opposite sex, the evidence (not to mention common sense) declares otherwise. People who undergo "sex-change" surgery have an undeniably high rate of regret and suicide. As reported in The Guardian:

There is no conclusive evidence that sex change operations improve the lives of transsexuals, with many people remaining severely distressed and even suicidal after the operation, according to a medical review conducted exclusively for Guardian Weekend tomorrow.

The review of more than 100 international medical studies of post-operative transsexuals by the University of Birmingham's aggressive research intelligence facility (Arif) found no robust scientific evidence that gender reassignment surgery is clinically effective.

The reality is that people who operate under a delusion like "transgenderism" need help and support to overcome it, not encouragement to remain in it. It's bad enough that a man would believe himself to be a woman (something he can never, ever be), but how much worse is it for him if he procures the "services" of a "doctor" who will administer opposite-sex hormones and amputate his "offending" sex organs? It is truly breathtaking that our nation now stands in the midst of such insanity being aggressively pushed by our elected officials and others in positions of authority.

As for the newly proposed ordinance in Boston, Brian Camenker notes that it is unlikely to be opposed by the leftist City Council and Mayor. I strongly recommend that you read his entire report to see the deceptive depths to which this movement will sink to push its devilish agenda as evidenced by the text of the ordinance itself, which Brian expertly deconstructs. He also shows that part of the larger goal is to eventually have a nationwide insurance coverage mandate for hormone treatments and "sex-change" operations.

So, what can we do about this kind of outrageous assault on truth, morality and common sense? Brian writes:

How do you fight this? As we have shown, there is at least one thing that everyone can do that makes a difference: Tell the truth without backing down.

This ordinance is an example of how the Left's world is built on lies and intimidation. They depend on the silence and fear of regular people to push their agenda. Any textbook on confronting a totalitarian environment always begins with the requirement of telling the truth without any compromise. If you just do that, you're having a positive effect! And not doing so gives their side a tighter grip on the public's perceived definition of reality.

... Even in seemingly overwhelming circumstances like this, it is necessary to continue fighting harder than ever. We are convinced that in the long run it's worth it.
