The last time the federal government budget was balanced was over 25 years ago. The House Speaker was Newt Gingrich(R) back then, and the President was Bill Clinton(D).
Since that time, the federal debt has risen by almost $34 trillion. This kind of national debt will ultimately not only hurt seniors (via limitations and reductions of Social Security and Medicare to the public), but the younger generation will experience pressures to just pay interest on our outstanding U.S. Federal bonds.
Currently, the group entitled "Balanced Budget Now" is trying to inform the public of this danger.
The federal government (thanks to both political parties) has consistently accepted and approved huge annual federal deficits, which will ultimately endanger our country.
Mr. Gingrich is currently in an active effort to reverse this terrible trend. "'Balanced Budget Now' is executing a detailed plan to get the…states on board with a Balanced Budget Amendment that will force Congress to balance the federal budget. In fact, they’ve secured 27 of the 33 states needed to force Congress to propose a Balanced Budget Amendment for ratification.”
Just (annually) the yearly interest on the federal debt will entail payment totally about $1 trillion alone. This kind of federal debt will could very well cause a federal crisis.
This is why all of us should inform of leaders (in Congress and the White House as well) about the importance of addressing this issue.
You can do this by finding your Congressman or Senators on the internet and conveying your concern about this matter. You can call your Congress member or U.S. Senator’s office by calling the Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121. This will at least allow you to leave a message of your concern about the danger of this excessive deficit to their various DC’s office.
I also suggest you go the website: Balanced BudgetNow.com. It will further educate you on this issue. Thanks a lot for reading this and sharing this article with a friend. God Bless!
