Democrats continue to be the Party of Stupidity

My boss has been hitting the sauce pretty hard lately.

He is a businessman who also is a conservative senator in my home state of New Mexico. The sauce he has been imbibing is Alka-Seltzer — three times in two days as he has been forced to deal with the vacuous, buffoonish Democrats who control our state, resulting in heartburn and indigestion.

"I don't know how I'll make it through a 60-day session," he said recently.

He reports that the state capitol of Santa Fe — which bills itself as the City Different, certainly a truthful statement but not so much so as something more like the City Weird — is especially joyful these days with the election of the Most High Lord Barack Obama.

Presumably, state Democrats are eagerly anticipating the Chosen One leading America into a new era of economic justice and governmental responsibility.

Translated, this means jettisoning our free-enterprise economic system for socialism or even Marxism, and once-and-for-all exchanging our constitutional republic form of government for one that cedes virtually all power to Washington. The result: Trading prosperity and opportunity for poverty, and liberty and constitutionally guaranteed rights for oppression.

Yes, Democrats, always eager to put their stupidity on public display, find this something to eagerly anticipate. A writer friend aptly observes that it is nearly impossible to discern between the brains and bottoms of liberals.

The other day our governor, Bill Richardson, was nominated to be commerce secretary in the Obama administration, allowing him to return to Washington power politics. While that might not be good for the country, it would get him out of New Mexico, where, as a self-proclaimed ecology-minded politician, he toodles around the state in a chartered jet, leaving a carbon footprint equal to about a bizillion hours of driving by ordinary citizens.

Just think of him as Al Gore Lite, Gore being the high priest of the cult of global warming. They are merely two of the unending parade of charlatans and frauds cranked out by the Democrat Party, the charlatan-in-chief being the Lord Obama.

Now Richardson, after accepting millions of dollars in campaign donations from the oil and gas industries in New Mexico, seeks, for all intents and purposes, to shut them down with stifling regulations, apparently oblivious of the fact that they are the primary source of tax revenue, employment and growth in the state.

And to further prove their abject stupidity, Democrats here are seeking to forbid the use of fossil fuels for generating electricity. That 85% of our electricity is derived from coal-fired generating plants is of little concern to them. In typical liberal fashion, they simply refuse to consider the consequences of their idiotic policies and blissfully proceed forward into the 19th Century like a bunch of idealistic, but empty-headed, school children.

They remind one of engineers, conductors and porters who merrily party in the caboose while the train they are supposed to be guiding careens wildly down the tracks, headed for the abyss ahead.

Of course, they are just following the lead of the Most High Obama, who frankly admits that he will try to bankrupt the coal industry, thus guaranteeing — literally — lights out in America. Why the Left wants to turn this country into a huge North Korea is beyond the ability of normal folks to discern. It is said that viewing Korea from a satellite during darkness reveals a South Korea lit up like an Atlantic City casino, while North Korea languishes in virtual darkness.

While we deride France for her insane economic policies which kill jobs and innovation, and mock her for her failures in past wars, at least the French have enough sense to turn to nuclear power to generate 85% of their domestic energy. Here, the Left forbids the use of nuclear energy and prefers to use wind power, guaranteeing that we will not have enough electricity to run your refrigerator and reading lamp simultaneously.

The state of New Mexico, long dominated by liberal policies guaranteed to keep the economy poor and the educational system worse, simply is a microcosm of what America will be like if the Left is permitted to institute its wrong-headed social, economic and foreign policy measures.

But the people have spoken, at least enough of them who paused long enough to put down their video games and iPods and vote. And now the Party of Stupidity, representing the dumbest among us, will have a final, glorious opportunity to prove just why its party symbol is a jackass.
