My last-ditch effort to say something before November 5:
So the most recent call for panic as of this writing is Donald Trump’s alleged call for a firing squad. Poor ol’ Liz. Granted, President Trump’s choice of words might have been better chosen, but perhaps not. He sure knows how to activate the media. And, if you believe the age old adages that essentially state “there's no such thing as bad publicity” or “bad press is good press,” Donald has truly succeeded. And good for him.
But “Houston, we (may) have a problem.” Folks these days are just too content with second and third-hand “information,” and don’t bother to learn the facts. Content to hear what “the experts” tell us what we need to know rather than letting us learn ourselves. Go online. Look something up, pretty much anything. You will find pages and pages of commentary… then, maybe, finally, come across what actually happened or was actually said. What you wanted to discover in the first place. And, there is always “fake-news.” Spin. Added apostrophes etc.
Unfortunately, I totally understand this. Face it, there has just been a lot of history to date. In fact every day there is more. And, to make it worse, we create “history” these days with so many clauses, footnotes, addendums, and 20,000-plus page documents, that nobody can really keep up. I mean, “really” keep up. I saw that 5,593 pages was the longest bill ever passed by Congress. It was an act making consolidated appropriations for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2021. I’m pretty sure that since 2021 there have been even longer ones. Anyone reading them? No, We have to pass it so we can read it. Right?
I teach at a university. For some time, I have done a unit in the communications classes I taught. I presented the class with a global perspective on “communicating.” In part, I offered a look at many constitutions from across the globe. Did you know that ours is the longest-standing by far? Written in 1787. Did you also know that the average lifespan of a constitution is only around 19-years. Many constitutions don't last more than 10-years. France had one that only lasted one-year. By contrast, the “longest” (wordiest that is) is that of India. The English version of the Constitution of India is about 145,000 words. Really? That’s necessary?
The US constitution, by contrast, has only 4,400 words in total. And look at just how, to-the-point, and brief the first 10 Amendments are. The US “First Amendment: ”Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances,” is only 45-words total. Food for thought if ever there was.
In the Indian Constitution, there is no real, actual, unabridged “freedom of speech” clause. And, who has time to read it much less study it anyway? It’s intent, in my estimation, is to bamboozle people. Sorta like “Biden-nomics.” The Indian Constitution’s definition of “freedom of speech” is filled with carveouts such as allowing the State the ability to control speech that relates to “libel, slander, defamation, sedition or any other matter which offends against decency. or morality or undermines the authority or foundation of the State.” Explain that one folks. Sorta like defining “fake news?” Defining “decency” or “morality?” I guess it is always changing… what can be expressed that is. It’s cultural.
How did Kamala put it?
“Well, I think culture is — it is a reflection of our moment in our time, right? And — and present culture is the way we express how we’re feeling about the moment. And — and we should always find times to express how we feel about the moment that is a reflection of joy, because every — you know, it comes in the morning. We have to find ways to also express the way we feel about the moment in terms of just having language and a connection to how people are experiencing life. And I think about it in that way, too.”
Okay… Let’s legislate that! Be careful what you wish for.
We hear a lot these days about “white-supremacy.” Oppressors we are told. But does anyone know any history at all? How about how Spain occupied the Netherlands. For quite a while actually, 1579–1713. And then there was that 80-year war. No oppression of “brown people” there? Quite the opposite it would seem. What about South and Central America? Was Spanish the native language prior to the “Conquistadors” during that “Age of Discovery?” Oh how we forget. Even Wikipedia admits that Cortez and his “Conquistadors” overthrew the Aztec empire. (Killed most I seem to recall.) No “white-oppression” here either. Let’s all learn some world history. Let’s look at every “culture,” every continent, every era.
No, actually we really don’t forget. We just outright don’t care to know what goes on, what went on. How we got here. We just accept spin as information. But we do have a duty to understand how we got to where we are and that where we are is not where we always were… (Oh no, I’m sounding a bit like Kamala. Sorry.) I digressed.
So, President Trump did have a good point. As someone who faced combat in Vietnam, I totally get his point. If she (Liz Cheney) feels so strongly about waging war, why didn’t she sign up and go for it? Oh, I know: Because she knows that we, as a society, are content with third-party information. Plain and simple. She can talk a big-talk without walking any-walk at all. Like Kamala, she got to where she is because of a “man” in her life opening doors.
So, this morning I happened upon a video clip of Charlie Kirk debating Hasan Piker, political commentator, former producer at The Young Turks and columnist at HuffPost. Piker was arguing just how bad capitalism is. Of course, as with everyone on the “Left,” he overlooks more that I could even begin to elaborate on in this brief time, but “Google” the debate if you want. It may still be available.
Piker, who claimed to be earning a mere $60,000 a year however, somehow has recently managed to buy a $3-million house in Hollywood, CA. Funny how that works. Those BLM gals too. They made out like bandits didn’t they? (Actually, not a pun at all.) Combined with Nancy Pelosi’s investing genius, maybe we actually are on the wrong path here being conservatives and all. Food for thought? Maybe for another day.
But the point here that Piker and those of his elk seem to ignore is this: In order to “redistribute,” as the Left argues, there first has to be something to “distribute” in the first place. Ergo: The “re” in redistribute. Get it? If not, please stay home on election day.
