CPAC: Christians in the World of Politics

The 2026 CPAC (Conservative Political Action Conference) was held in Dallas, TX this year. I attended. And, yes, unfortunately, I would have to agree that, at “face value,” the crowd was, at times, not the size I had anticipated. But, there was a lot going on with the exhibitor area, ongoing live broadcasts, etc. aside from the main auditorium. But when the main presenters were on the main stage, there was barely breathing room in the large capacity hall of over 5,400.

So, if you are looking for reasons to crawl further into a cave (I.E. stay out of politics) and burry that proverbial lamp under a basket, think again. Conservative, Christian values are very much alive and well, despite ongoing attempts to bury them. This is a time in which fortitude is required to keep us from being smothered. Like Ruth, the Lord placed us here in this time for a reason. But, unlike the Pilgrims, setting sail on a 80-foot wooden ship to set up a new Christian colony somewhere across the sea, is no longer an option. This is it. We are there.

In preparing to write this article, I decided to recon the “other side.” I would have used the word “enemy” here, but in this, the era of empathy, I did not want to sound too harsh. As the World Wide Web churned in search of the answer to my question, top of the list of articles was former Whitehouse Press Secretary, MSNow Anchor, “Circle-Back,” Jen Psaki with this headline: “CPAC crowd humiliates Trump with cheers for impeachment” I was there. This is totally disingenuous. However, all mainstream media parroted the story.

If you were there, you would know. (In doubt? Watch the full event for yourself, not just a 5-second clip) Yes, the auditorium was only about half full at the time of these, early in the day, opening remarks. But the truth of the matter is that the crowd was just used to cheering at every prompt and suddenly, the phrasing of this question, poised by Matt Schlapp, caught the crowd by surprise. He restated it, they cheered, he moved on. End of story. FYI: Nobody cheered for impeachment. But enough of digging in the weeds. If you have not yet learned that big media is in noway shape or form akin to Christian thought, sell your TV.

Surely the liberal left leaning media did not report on the standing-room only crowds drawn by Reza Pahlavi, former Crown Prince of the Pahlavi dynasty of Iran, Flávio Bolsonaro, presidential candidate in Brazil, Both had warm, Christian based sentiments toward our country. You can Google their presentations. May God Bless America. RFK Jr. and Ted Cruz didn’t do too bad either.

In all seriousness, these are truly times that test even the strongest among us. I have grandkids. I am concerned. I often point out that much, maybe even most Scripture is/was written about current events. Things that were happening at the time. I, like many, use the internet as an initial point of entry in doing research. Even AI agrees with me: “The Bible extensively covers politics, with government, justice, and societal organization mentioned throughout both Testaments. It emphasizes God's sovereignty over earthly rulers, the necessity of righteous leadership.” I couldn’t have put it better myself.

Much of the Bible was written during times of intense political oppression. There are lessons there to be learned, not just quoted, but placed into action. Unfortunately, many in the Faith argue that Christians should stay out of politics. I read where studies suggest around 36% of regular churchgoers never hear abortion discussed from the pulpit. Really? What do we talk about? Turning the other cheek? Joel 3:10 tells us there comes a time when plowshares must be forged into swords. Might it be now?

Christ himself said that there is a point at which we should sell our cloaks and buy swords. However, while enjoying the very liberty that still allows them to do so in the first place, many argue possible symbolic meaning and point out that Jesus, in the Garden of Gethsemane, rebuked Peter for drawing his sword against the Roman soldiers as he was being turned over to them. Was Christ preaching passivity?

Just maybe, Jesus had a better idea of what was about to come than did Peter. Maybe this was another “get behind me Satan” moment in which the entire purpose of Christ’s suffering and death on the cross could have been undermined with a small battle ensuing there on that very spot. Another of Satan’s failed attempts.

I recently read General George Patton’s prayer for good weather. It was December 1944, during the Battle of the Bulge, General George S. Patton tasked 3rd Army Chaplain James O'Neill with writing a prayer for better weather to enable air support.

The prayer read: “Lord, I am not unreasonable. I don't ask for impossible things. I don't want to perform a miracle. All I'm asking for is four days of "clear weather." Consent to give me, as Your gift, four days of blue sky, so that my airplanes can take off, hunt, bomb, find their goals and annihilate them.” Patton prayed that, “armed with Thy power, we may advance from victory to victory, and crush the oppression and wickedness of our enemies and establish Thy justice among men and nations. “

“Crush the oppression.” Think about it. Are we not at a point at which we must use the power of being informed and use our vote to “crush,” this oppression that is brewing in our nation? Elijah called down fire in 1 Kings:18 to prove God's power against the prophets of Baal. Today, the world is sanctifying pretty much every evil thing one can imagine. Do we not need to take threats like Sharia Law, transgenderism, abortion, First and Second Amendment rights, etc to heart and make our beliefs actionable? Did not God Himself establish borders, define “citizenship?”

I read where about 9% of all babies born in the U.S. annually are to “unauthorized immigrant or legal temporary immigrant mothers.” This has been going on for decades. Many being raised in Communist China… with voting rights. I am totally surprised by just how many in my circle of friends and acquaintances seem oblivious to what is going on right in front of them. They draw a blank look and tell me to “have a blessed day” and move on. They head to Cracker Barrel.

The church, pastors in the pulpit, need to become involved in my opinion. Instructing Christians to live and adapt to the Christian, Biblical, Worldview. Pointing out and acting on current events that affect our Christian Worldview. Developing a Christian Worldview. And not just within the church walls, but in life as “doers” of the Word. And “doing” suggests that we must do our part in securing an environment in which we can live our faith or there will be a dark world ahead. The Patriot Academy offers a free program in Biblical Citizenship. Your church or Bible Study group could use it. I myself listen, daily, to American Family Radio for Scripture based news reporting. These are just my thoughts. The rest is up to you.
