A breath of fresh air for the U.S. House

For a few weeks, scores of Americans have been upset over the inability of the U.S. House of Representatives to select a new Speaker. For those of us who are Christians, it has been a battle we have had to take to the Lord in prayer. To my fellow believers in Christ, I encourage you to look at the new Speaker, Mike Johnson, as a breath of fresh air and even a cause for hope.

Some of the candidates previously nominated were worse than the previous Speaker, Kevin McCarthy, who lost his position because of his backroom dealings and the passing of a disastrous debt ceiling bill that eliminated the debt ceiling! Talk about making people mad! That was just about the final straw.

McCarthy was a bad choice from the start. Most of us who are awake and aware of government game-playing already knew he was a compromiser. In that regard, he did not disappoint. Yes, there were a few bills he got passed that might change things. But major issues were not addressed as they should have been, like the border nightmare, Biden family corruption, J6 prisoners, weaponization of the federal government, out-of-control spending, or election fraud. Of course, there was a half-hearted “inquiry” into Biden corruption, but the short committee hearings better resembled a circus. They showed conservative Americans how unserious the Republican leadership was about investigating any of it.

Sadly, the longer the House waits to investigate things like Biden corruption, the statutes of limitation expire. Probably, running the statutes is exactly why the FBI never moved on Hunter Biden’s laptop. Wait long enough and he cannot be tried. It worked in the case of Hillary Clinton.

So then, for many Americans, it was beginning to look increasingly more likely that we were going to have a full-blown RINO as Speaker of the House, one who would do even more damage to an already fragile nation. For America First citizens, those of us who would like our government to focus more on We the People instead of the rest of the world, we were becoming firmer in believing even our elected representatives were no longer listening to us but treating us like their servants. Frankly, after writing to my Florida representative, who is supposedly one of the more conservative members of Congress and receiving a simple “form letter” response that did not address any of my stated concerns, I was certain this was a sign America is in deeper trouble than I originally thought.

Then for multitudes of Christians, we have been praying earnestly for God to move in this situation to bring forth the leader of His choosing. The Lord Jesus told us to occupy until He returns (Lk. 19:13). This means we are to be alert and understanding of the signs all around us that indicate the “season” we are in. Bible students can discern the “times” when we apply God’s Word to our surroundings, and to the state of our nation and the world. What we have been seeing is chaos in our Congress. This tells us how to pray.

It has been my wish to write about this chaos for a couple of weeks, but I have not had clear directions from the Lord. And then after writing to my congressman and getting such a disappointing response, I was shown that going forward, every move made by our government, including the House members, will be a sign about the direction our nation is now headed.

For almost two decades I have been writing warnings about what is happening here in America, and the dangers we face from our decisions. Now we have entered an even more difficult time. Through prayer I am being shown that all now points to salvation or destruction of our nation. Everything. The events and decisions we will watch are going to be clear signs pointing one way or the other. Knowing this, my fellow intercessors and I have been fervently praying about God sending us His choice for Speaker.

During prayer, I was reminded of the biblical story of David and Goliath. There was a time when the Philistines were waging war against the Israelites led by King Saul. There was one valiant soldier on the Philistine side named Goliath, who was a giant. He was taunting the Israelites and caused fear among King Saul’s soldiers, and as a result no one was willing to fight the brute. Now David, son of Jesse was tending his father’s sheep, but was given instructions from his father to take food to his elder three brothers who were in the battle lines drawn against the Philistines. When young David got there, he inquired about the situation, and asked the question: “Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?” The rest of the story, as most of us know from even Sunday school classes, is that with a sling and a stone, David killed Goliath (1 Sam).

There is another event from scripture that also came to my mind from the book of Isaiah. The prophet was having a vision of being in heaven with God, who was asking about whom He could send to handle a certain situation, “Who will go for us?” Then Isaiah answered, “Here I am. Send me” (Is. 6:8).

Dear fellow believers, my prayer partners and I have been waiting for this stature of man to arise and be willing to take this difficult job as Speaker of the House. When we heard the news this morning that Representative Johnson was now nominated for the speakership position, after we escaped a truly bad choice on Monday, we rejoiced. This man stepping forth truly feels like an answer to prayer. And apparently, he and his wife are serious people of prayer. He seems humble, not one seeking fanfare, and is there to do the job his constituents expect him to do. His voting record indicates he is a true constitutional conservative. Again, he is a breath of fresh air!

Now then, as often happens, people can change when they get into such positions of authority. Nobody should just assume we can close our eyes and just let the business of our nation continue without any oversight. Particularly for Christians, we are supposed to be “occupying” until Jesus returns, which includes making ourselves aware of all that is happening, including within our government. We the People have allowed our government to become a monster that cannot be tamed. So then, being warned that all actions/events going forward tell us whether this nation will be saved or destroyed, we must observe Speaker Johnson and all representatives in Congress. They work for us, and therefore, supervision is necessary.

Please understand that America is going to be judged. Our collective sins are too great to be ignored by a righteous Judge. We can hasten or slow down the judgment by the steps we take going forward. As I have repeatedly said, our future is up to us.

In these dark and uncertain days, our personal salvation is even more important than that of our nation. The Bible says that we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Rom. 3:23), and that our hearts are desperately wicked (Jer. 17:9). Furthermore, the Bible says, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life (Jn. 3:16 NASB).

From personal experience I proclaim that having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ has totally changed my life. What He has done for me, He can do for you. If you have not made this important decision yet, today is the day of salvation. What if you do not have tomorrow? To anyone willing to hear….
