Christian responsibility in voting—are we part of the problem or solution?

Speaking at the Madison Square Garden Trump event October 27, former New York Mayor Rudi Giuliani said of America’s current condition: “If we don’t bring God back, we don’t come back.”

We are a week away from Election Day, the culmination of what has become Election Season. And more than likely the results will not be completed on Nov. 5 considering all the voting shenanigans that are still being allowed to happen around our nation.

As citizens are we going to exercise our authority in this representative republic to select the proper people to make decisions for the running/direction of our nation? Remember, these people are supposed be standing for our interests, not their own. They work for us—not dictate to us.

The thought is that voting is a right and a privilege. Perhaps both are true, but most importantly, it is our duty to vote—particularly if we are Christians.

This close to the election, exhortations, teachings, and warnings may be irrelevant. As one reasonably informed person just told me, everyone is either an absolute democrat or republican, and there is no sense in trying to give them added information. Really? Nonetheless there may be a few of you, professing Christians, who are either undecided, or don’t plan to vote. As we have previously discussed, an estimated 30 to 50 million presumed Christians are in the latter group. Hopefully, some of these people can be convinced of the importance of citizens engaging in the process.

It is disturbing to hear that the minds of those deeply embedded in their political parties cannot be persuaded to consider another viewpoint. Full disclosure: While I vote mostly Republican, and must claim one of the two main parties here in Florida, I consider myself an independent. Besides, more importantly, my identity is not with a party, but as a citizen of God’s Kingdom. America is just a temporary address. This is true for all Christians!

So, we should be seeking God on all decisions we make—even political. May I ask if you have sought God’s advice on whom/how to vote? (Answer truthfully because God already knows.) Further, as professing Christians, do you feel you have any responsibility in preserving societal standards, or the course our so-called leaders are taking us? To the second question, the answer is that one of the only reasons we are living is to further the Kingdom of God by being “salt and light” (Matt. 5: 13-14) in our temporary home. Remember, heaven is the true home of born-again Christians.

God did not send His one and only Son to die on a cross so that we can eat, drink, and be merry without any responsibilities or accountability. No, He allows us to be here to draw people to Jesus. As salt, we are to flavor and preserve. Our Lord says, “You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste (its strength, its quality), how can its saltiness be restored? It is not good for anything any longer but to be thrown out and trodden underfoot by men.” (Matt. 5: 13 Amp) Regarding our being light, Jesus says, “Let your light so shine before men that they may see your moral excellence and your praiseworthy, noble, and good deeds and recognize and honor and praise and glorify your Father Who is in heaven.” (Matt. 5:16 Amp)

How is that salt and light aspect working out for America? Have we Christians been doing our work? Or have the forces of evil been more effective in their efforts to decide our spiritual and moral condition? We must understand that those we put into office make the laws that are overriding God’s laws. And do not be fooled…Our nation is based on the Rule of Law—the United States Constitution, aka the Law of the Land.

Furthermore, the Constitution is based on God’s Law. Any serious student of the Bible can recognize the origins of our laws while reading Scriptures.

Is it becoming more clear as to the importance of seeking God’s direction in our elections? We cannot select our representatives based on personality. Once more, any student of the Bible knows that even Satan can disguise himself as an angel of light. (2 Cor. 11:14) We should be seeking true people of God to stand for us.

Sadly, as we have discussed in earlier articles over the years, most Congresspeople proclaim to be Christian—ninety one percent of those currently in office, according to Pew Research! Now, do any of us really believe this? The laws being made or upheld from those two bodies are not in agreement with God’s Word. It appears these people are intentionally lying to us, or they are Christian in name only.

Either the American Church has failed to teach the truth about what it means to be disciples of Jesus Christ, and what is needed from us, or those who once confessed belief in the Lord have now become confused, compromised, or are lukewarm, lazy, and lax. Or have we just been deceived and deluded? Forgive my bluntness, but something is drastically wrong.

Rick Renner, author, and Bible teacher for over 45 years recently said that in the Last Days there will be two churches—the real Church, and a false Church. The real Church is what the Bible calls the remnant. The American Heritage Dictionary defines remnant as something left over; or a surviving trace or vestige, as in “a remnant of his past glory.” Biblical examples of the remnant include the fact that only Noah and his immediate family, eight people, survived the Great Flood. (Gen. 6) Only Lot and his two daughters survived the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. (Gen. 19) So then, could it be that today’s real Church is but a “shadow” of its former self?

Is it too late to change our spiritual/moral condition, which has had a serious impact on the course of our nation? Yes and no…In “A Wake-up Call and Warning to the Church about Election 2024—part two” we discussed that for change to occur in America, we must change. For all who know Jesus as Lord, we must seek Him first before going into that voting booth. For those who do not really know the Lord, I pray God convict you because this is serious business. If you call yourself a believer in Christ and are living in open sin, God can and will convict you if you are concerned enough to ask. Scripture tells us, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” (Matt. 7:7 NKJV) And also, “And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.” (Jer.29:13 NKJV)

Why is all this biblical instruction important? Because God is going to hold us accountable for what we have done with what He has given us. As a nation we have gone from being a light unto all the world because we were founded upon and practiced Judeo-Christian principles, to a nation exporting all kinds of filth and degradation, and in some cases, coercing nation’s leaders to go along with our policies on things like the LGBT agenda to receive money from us. Or consider that we have become warmongers. A study of history shows that many of our corporations have funded both sides of every war we were engaged in. I again recommend Crimes and Cover-ups in American Politics, and the two later books by Donald Jeffries.

Even now, our government gives aid to Israel, but also gives money to Iran, an enemy to both Israel and America. They call us the Great Satan and call Israel the Little Satan. Iran in turn funds the terrorists attacking Israel. Those with critical thinking skills should be able to decide that WE are funding both sides of the Middle East conflict. Do most Americans realize this? Then why are we so eager to re-elect the people responsible for this? WHY?

Also know that speaking of Israel, God says, “I will bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you; and all the families of the earth will be blessed through you.” (Gen. 12:3 NKJV) Wake up America!

Much of what our so-called leaders have done and continue doing is not considered Christian. And that my friends, is on the Christian community because we selected those who are making these decisions. By default, we are making these decisions.

God is quite serious about accountability. His Word says, “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked [He will not allow Himself to be ridiculed, nor treated with contempt nor allow His precepts to be scornfully set aside]; for whatever a man sows, this and this only is what he will reap.” (Gal. 6:7 Amp)

Furthermore, a reading of Deuteronomy chapter 28, what I call the “blessing and curses” chapter will put an exclamation point on the matter of how serious it is to turn from God.

So, in the rest of this election cycle, we still have a chance to begin reversing course with our decisions. Perhaps though, far too many of us do not understand how low we have sunk in the political realm that now affects absolutely every area of our society. The answer to understanding the situation is to seek God.

Are we going to be part of the problem, giving aid and comfort to those who are destroying the Judeo-Christian fabric of our society, or part of the solution returning us to the Founding Principles, as so eloquently written in our Founding Documents? Once more, the answer to this question depends on whether we are going to again acknowledge and honor the Holy God of the Bible who holds our fate in His hands.

As Mayor Rudi was quoted at the start of this discussion: “If we don’t bring God back, we don’t come back.” It is time to get on our knees and repent for having allowed our nation to get to this point. The fact that we are so divided is frightening. Evil appears to be winning, but God will only allow this for a while. Judgement is coming. In fact, perhaps this deterioration is part of the judgment. Do we want to change? Then begin now…our tomorrows may be extremely limited. Only the Father in heaven knows. To anyone willing to hear….
