Donald Trump a poor substitute for what America really needs?

"Fame is a vapor, popularity an accident, riches take wing, and only character endures." – Horace Greely

Any Christian messenger worth his salt has at some time in the last seven years called upon America to observe a very unique scripture passage. It is a clarion call to any nation that wants to find favor with God or return to better times. The passage never mentions getting a new leader because the business of renewing a nation is always done through its citizens. The passage is so familiar it almost needs no reiteration, but for the few who may have missed it:

"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." (2 Ch 7: 14)

A deluge of articles have appeared in recent months written by Christian leaders and other serious pundits that give dire warnings about the rise of Trump. They range from articles that question Trump's Christianity to a disgusting piece on Yahoo News about a statement Trump made publicly about his attraction to his own daughter Ivanka.

Can the Donald – make America creepy again?

But its 2008 all over again and the pop-culture, anti PC, bragging ultra-rich hero of our beleaguered Obama wearied citizenry cannot be swayed or deterred; its Obama's "change we can believe in"- coming right up the pike, yet once again.

Many writers now regret that they did not do more to give fair warning about Barack Obama in both 2008 and 2012, including this author, which helps to explain why so many journalists are in high gear about warning others before the general election of 2016.

Many of the best writers warned that it wasn't Mr. Obama that caused the nation to slide ever downward, but it was the people. We have allowed so many liberal, socialist, un-Godly, anti-Christian and filthy immoral practices to take root under color of 'change' and 'law' that it mattered little who sat in the oval office – the die was already cast.

A thousand anti-Trump diatribes may not alter the course of our present decline – the nation must reflect on its own behavior or perish. In fact, Trump's complete lack of humility, his lifestyle and his entire demeanor are part of the problem – not the answer.

Donald Trump has become the poor substitute for our own lack of repentance and is what is being used to supplant the call given in the aforementioned passage of scripture.

The ever popular WND.com recognizes Trump as the "Man of the Year" at the same time it refers to its highly regarded contributor Jonathan Cahn as "America's Prophet."

We cannot have it both ways! Will we listen to "The man of the Year" or "America's Prophet?"

In Jonathan Cahn's amazing book and subsequent film – The Harbinger, the message is clear. After the attacks of 9/11 Cahn shows us, very concisely, that America wanted only to re-build for the sake of her pride and refused be humbled and contrite. Cahn calls it the "Erez Tree" and he uncovers the error in great detail.

Retrospectively we can see Barack was not the answer; do we now think that the answer is Donald Trump? The definition for insanity again please!

Journalist and essayist Linda Kimball describes the reasons America is so enthralled with Trump, but she concludes that it is not what we think of Trump that is the problem – it is us. The article entitled "Why Are Americans Voting for a Mouthy, Junk-Yard Dog like Trump?" Kimball concludes with this remarkable statement.

"America is a roiling sea of darkness dotted here and there by very small islands of light. No man – no not Trump either – can make great an apostatizing, spiritually diseased and dying society in which a majority of its citizens are slaves to appetites. Without a; Nineveh-style repentance and turning back to the Lord, it seems more likely that Trump will prove to be another tin-pot dictator rather than a Cyrus."

The message is easy – when God sent the prophet Jonah to Nineveh he did not ask them to change rulers. He did not so much as suggest that it was the King of the great Assyrian Empire that was at fault for anything. He called the people to humble themselves – give up their licentiousness and immorality and get right.

All the prophets did exactly the same as Jonah when they prophesied to the ancient cities, the only difference is, Nineveh heeded Jonah's message and it was spared.

Kimball's message has touched on the very heart of the matter. There is no candidate, no politics, and no policy that can substitute for the American people turning it all over to the God of our founding fathers.

Trump is not the substitute that will save our nation.

Perhaps we are no different than Nineveh; there are just more of us who seem to be lacking basic powers of discernment, to wit:

"And should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle?" (Jonah 4: 11)

After the great showing of character and statesmanship given to us by our founders we have seen some of the noblest patriots, leaders and dignitaries in the world coming out of our nation. Now we are reduced to boot licking sycophantism while doting on a man who flies around in a plane with a 24-Karat gold plated lavatory.

We may not be humbling ourselves, but we are most certainly humiliating ourselves. Greatness is a matter of character not cash and when we canonize the egos of the successful we are never so poor as a nation.
