Was Anne Frank murdered at Auschwitz?
By Moshe Phillips
The Monday, October 24, 2011 Philadelphia edition of the free commuter daily newspaper Metro contained a 300 word article by Bruce Walsh about a Center City Philadelphia theater's performance of "The Diary of Anne Frank."
In an article about the single most famous child victim of the Holocaust the reporter failed to use the word Holocaust. If that was not enough, he also failed to use the words Germany, Nazi, Hitler, Amsterdam or Auschwitz or the phrase World War Two.
I have written about Metro's biases and gaffs many, many times since 2009 but even this article is shocking.
There are three times references are made to Jews but Anne Frank's story is given no historical context. How did this get pass Metro's editors?
What is reader left to assume the play is about?
Walsh tells his readers that it is "dealing with the young girl's burgeoning sexuality, her frustration with her parents and her religious practices." He goes on to say it will be "an intimate, brutally honest production with an emphasis in realism."
The description seems more apt for a staging of Lolita. To separate Anne Frank from the Holocaust is of course absurd. It can be assumed it was a thoughtless mistake.
The thing is though that such journalistic failures do not occur in a vacuum.
The rhetoric used by the Palestinian Arabs and their cheering section on the American scene — from leftists and the neo-Nazis on the one hand to haters like David Duke, Louis Farrakhan and CAIR on the other is — to use Holocaust terminology and imagery when discussing Israel's treatment of Gazans and other. Shamefully, some American Jews from the J Street crowd do this as well.
Tens millions of dollars have been spent by Steven Spielberg's Shoah Foundation, by the ADL and by the United States Holocaust Museum to teach Americans about the unique horrors of the Holocaust. Has something has gone wrong?
For decades, Jewish liberals have sought to teach the history of the Holocaust through their distorted prism. They relied a secular-humanist / universalist approach in an effort to try and help non-Jews relate to Jewish history while at the same time spreading their political agenda simultaneously. Thus the Jewish victims of the Holocaust were victimized yet again.
One in three Jews worldwide were murdered by Nazis during the Holocaust — including Anne Frank. The Nazis could not have carried out the greatest criminal act in the history of the world without the civilized world's indifference. And, despite CAIR's machinations and the aforementioned tens of millions, Jews are now more often the target of so-called hate-crimes in the U.S. than Muslims.
When one surveys the rampant anti-Zionism in the world today, can anyone say those tens of millions were worth it? Would the funds have been better spent on Israeli tanks, jet fighters and yeshivas?
