Robert Kennedy assassinated for supporting Israel

Fifty years ago, the United States heard the shocking news that another Kennedy had been assassinated.

On June 5, 1968, Robert Kennedy announced victory in the California primary election for the Democratic nomination for the presidency. Upon completing his celebratory speech to supporters at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, Kennedy attempted to exit through the hotel's kitchen area. While shaking the hand of a busboy, Kennedy was mortally wounded by the bullets of a now-empty handgun. He died at Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles in the early hours of June 6, about 26 hours after being shot.

The assassination, exactly one year after the outbreak of the Arab-Israeli Six-Day War, occurred by the hands of Sirhan Sirhan, a Palestinian Arab who hated Israel and the fact that Sen. Kennedy was an outspoken supporter of Israel and the Jewish people. Israel was victorious in the 1967 June War, making the assassination timing no coincidence. At just 24 years old, Sirhan decided to take the life of the senator, thereby leaving Americans to wonder what could have been.

"My only connection with Robert Kennedy was his sole support of Israel and his deliberate attempt to send those 50 bombers to Israel to obviously do harm to the Palestinians," Sirhan told David Frost in a 1989 interview.

The Six-Day War developed when Arab leaders from Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Iraq, Syria and Yemen called for the annihilation of Israel and the extermination of the Jewish people, while amassing their armies on Israel's borders.

This battle was 51 years ago and like the actions of Adolph Hitler and the Nazis from 73 years ago, many Muslim leaders and organizations are still calling for the annihilation of Israel and the extermination of the Jewish people. But, President Donald Trump has shown strength in standing up to Iranian Islamic extremists, as part of a republic that vows continual support of Hamas, Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad, and other Islamic terror groups. This flies contrary to the actions and desires of former President Barack Obama, who lied to the American people about the Iran nuclear deal.

Fifty years ago, a tragic murder took place. The United States lost a man on his way to potentially being president, and Israel lost a great supporter, one who could have been highly impactful on the nation's future. Both nations lost a man wishing to unite mankind in servitude of God.
