GOT GOD YET? And, how hard have you been looking??

"Great Danes are just, like, so great, aren't they? They're just, like, big dogs! I know! Yeah, yeah. Great Danes are great. OMG, they just so are!" — quotation by a famous Hollywood actress (whose name shall remain unknown to protect the guilty one)**

"PROGRESSIVES" HAVE HAD THEIR WAY WITH US — for so long — and yet the Great Society seems to be regressing every year. Laura Ingraham talked to an atheist during the holiday "controversies" over religion. Her guest said, essentially, "Why do we need religion anyway?"

LAURA SAID, "Just look around you."

I think it went right over his head like a boomerang, but if you really want to know "why we need religion," just read the Detroit Free Press some time. Here are some of just one day's headlines (Dec. 21):
    - IN PONTIAC, JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING MUST GO; Asset sell-off could give glimpse of Detroit's future ["for sale" list in Pontiac includes 5 fire stations, 2 cemeteries, 2 landfills, 11 pumping stations, 2 community centers, the public library, and police station]

    - American held by Iran [Flint grad "not a spy" says State Dept.]

    - Topless bar must now be booze-less [just one strip club in Detroit had a 14-year-old girl dancing, "other" sexual violations, has had sales of narcotics on the premises, not to mention police responding to 11 nonfatal shootings and 3 fatal shootings since 2003 there]

    - A Hanukkah story mentions that there were once 44 synagogues in Detroit [the number is now down to "ONE"!]

    - "Tougher Wayne State admissions unfair to minorities, groups say" [no comment necessary]
BTW, I bought the Free Press on December 27th also, and a page one headline says:

"Internet escort ads linked to 3 of 4 deaths"

The story, excerpted:
"One December week. Two car trunks. Four women dead. . .

"Three of the four women found dead are linked to escort advertisements on [ — .com], police said . . .

"'The tie for us is disconcerting,'" said the police chief.

[To say the least, eh? For those of us who went to school long, long ago, in a nation far, far different — almost every day is "disconcerting"!! And some people can't figure out "what's wrong"??]

QUOTE: 12/26/11 (Reuters) — Three women discovered dead in Detroit over the past week, including two found burned beyond recognition early on Christmas, were linked to a website called [ — ] that advertises adult escort services, police said on Monday.

In two incidents over the last week, four women — all African-Americans in their 20s — have been found dead in the trunks of abandoned vehicles on Detroit's east side.

The latest incident occurred about 1 a.m. on Sunday, when the Detroit Fire Department responded to reports of a car fire.

After putting out the flames, firefighters discovered two dead women in the trunk of the 1997 Buick LaSabre. Three of the four women, the police said in a statement, were linked with "prearranged adult dating services" . . . [unquote]

Yes, "Why do we need religion" — when it makes a few people such as Annie Gaylor "uncomfortable"? Why should I CARE if she feels uncom-for-table??

** We ought to be more concerned how we look to the rest of the WORLD.

P.S. I should finish this subject later, because one of my new year's resolutions is to try to write shorter columns!

Suffice it to say for now though, that I once attended a church service on the east side of Detroit and got invited home for dinner by an black family (who also had a Curtis for a young son). The year was 1964, before the Riots.

I often wondered how they came out of those riots.

PPS: If you give a "hoot" about it, one has to wonder how America is going to come out through the next few years.

[More to come.]
