Sleep Walking in America: quisnam mos excito populus

As if America has fallen into a condition of protracted somnambulism, most public officials along with the summarily distracted citizens of our nation seem bent on plunging headlong to their own demise: but why? We're not yet the walking dead but we may be close to a nation of sleep walking dullards who need to wake up before we lose everything.

Not a day passes when someone does not read my article entitled, Prophecy 2010 — America Approaches the Fork in the Road either on my website or one of the dozen or so other sites that have published it. It indicates to me that there are a growing number of people who sense that we are living in turbulent times and they are trying to make sense of it all.

Recent Pew reports indicate that forty percent of Americans believe that Christ will return by 2050. Although I would argue that it will be much sooner than that, I stand amazed that in spite of Muslim encroachment, apostate churches falling rapidly and a deepening of licentiousness and immorality a lot of believing American Christians are still holding the line.

One of the benefits of having a good statistics meter on a web page is that you can see not only how many are visiting your site but you can gather a sense of what they are looking at and just how long they spend on different features. Watching my own site meter has shown me that most people fly through the site at the speed of light and then they are off to the next source of information.

The preponderance of information on the internet is mind boggling and that contributes to the skim along the top kind of browsing that is so prevalent. Now and then someone will slow down, pause, meditate and reflect on what they are seeing or reading. I don't know who those people are but I know I would probably like them. I'm sure I could carry on a decent conversation with them and no doubt would learn something by listening to them.

But for most, it is apparent that they are living in a fly by world where information never gets deep enough to become education or edification. It may be that since everything changes so quickly today that it is just easier to skim the surface and quickly return to the more familiar patterns of our own comfortable everyday life. There is nothing at all wrong with this approach unless everything is about to blow wide open. With little time and even less certainty to make a final adjustment, the unwary will be caught in the wash and swept away. They will become those who give definition to the adage, "They never knew what hit them."

Since the spring of 1948 more important Biblical prophecies on the second coming of Christ have been fulfilled than in the last 1,500 years, so why isn't everyone paying full attention to this amazing fact? No one has yet explained it any better than Christ himself. In the chapter 24 of Matthew, Jesus outlined certain world conditions that would precede his return but sadly he announced the following.

"But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be." (Mt 24: 37-39)

Eating, drinking and marrying are quite ordinary things, so what's wrong with that? The keyword here is ordinary. Most people are not taken off guard by ignorance, lack of interest or cunning charlatans but rather they are just too busy to pay much attention to anything beyond their own daily affairs. The price for these distractions is beyond comprehension; they can and will cost everything for far too many people.

Adding to all the distractions is a generation that was weaned and tutored by modernity's secularist academicians and quite simply, have been laden down with serious misinformation and bad history.

Anyone in the US who picks up a placard to march for the Palestinian cause for nationhood or their alleged mistreatment by Israel are examples of those who have been victimized by lazy, false and misguided modern history.

Those few who who went beyond the hype of the average classroom dribble and, into an actual search of the facts knows that prior to 1948, there was no Palestinian state and there was no call for one, made by anyone. Digging a little deeper would produce the fact that Israel possessed the land it now inhabits for over 4,000 years with the exception of only a very few years. Palestinians were a nomadic group of tribes roaming the region for centuries and were no more a nation than your back yard is the Vatican.

Years of lobbing rockets and bombs against Israel and sending in men, women and children to Israel's population with explosives strapped to their bodies is tolerated because we have decided not to check the curriculum, the agenda or the character of our instructors in our ever burgeoning system of modern education; too busy perhaps? This is what we call a super absurdity.

Naturally we tend to miss the dire warnings of scripture that when taken seriously say one thing to our nation about Israel. I will give you this interpretation before quoting the verse. "Israel is our last ace in the hole." If we continue on the sleazy path of national immorality, corruption in government from the White House down and selfish indulgence in everything material, we have only one thing that keeps us from being next in line as another great nation that fell under God's hand of judgment. Here's the verse in all of its blaring transparency.

About Israel God said "And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed." (Gen 12:3)

Again in case you missed it, "Israel is our last ace in the hole." As the Obama administration's anti-Israel rhetoric grows we are teetering on the edge of national disaster. Our friendship, support and protection of Israel are the only things we may have going for us that could keep us from becoming completely reprobate. Sound real serious? I could not emphasize it too much, it is very serious.

We seem to be willing to endure more contradictions than ever before in our history. What we find in today's literature, the media, films and the daily news are stories and events that have no resolve, no healing and certainly no happy ending. This trend is reflective of our nation's new proclivity for all that is tolerant and diverse. No one seems to remember that math problems with no product are discarded, conflicts with no end capitulate to attrition and endless unresolved national issues keep a nation ever staggering but never standing.

We have an administration whose motto is "never let a good crisis go to waste" but only now are Americans beginning to realize that the administration itself is the biggest crisis of all. Maybe the motto of the people is now "let's waste this administration at the polls before everything we are, has gone to waste."

The elections of 2010 and 2012 respectively will be a resolve or a happy ending if Americans who aren't sleeping have anything to say about it. The motto that's been rolling around in my head as I await the midterms and beyond is "A nation is a terrible thing to waste," especially one as great as America was always meant to be.

Until such time as we endeavor to thoroughly change the guard we will probably have to endure a few more absurdities like these, for example.

Seniors in a Wisconsin high school were required to produce their birth certificates before being allowed to shake the Presidents hand when he made a visit to their school. There can be only one word to describe this absurdity and it is "amazing." Since investigators have recently uncovered that Mr. Obama is using a social security number issued in Connecticut, a state he has never lived in, and has not yet produced his own long form birth record that should be enough. But it is not.

Now Mr. Tim Adams a former senior elections clerk for the state of Hawaii says he will swear under oath that no birth certificate for Barack Obama exists at all in Hawaii. Along with dozens of other documents that still remain missing it is as if we are being asked to believe that this President dropped out of heaven as a gift to a nation that just needed some refreshing new thing called "change."

We have people who are losing sleep at night wondering where this President is going next, while they haven't yet answered where he came from in the first place. After this, some still dare to say the birthers are on the fringe, but the media is main stream. Those with a little self respect and an ounce of common sense know that it is actually the other way around. If you can't see this, just ask yourself the question, if those who want to see Obama's birth certificate are called "the fringe," what do we call those who asked for the birth certificates of an entire class of Michigan high school students?

What makes an absurdity? It's not about what fits, what rhymes or what is obvious and apparent, it is about what is turned end for end and upside down. It is the power of deductive reasoning, common sense and those constitutional rights to self govern that are thrust into a constant state of perversion.

We have a President who skips the National Day of Prayer but is there for the kickoff of the LBGT month long celebration of the gay life. We are still not sure if he is a Christian or a Muslim but we know he loves the gays with all certainty. While that's not exactly all American it is after all a free country even if it's not so comfortable anymore.

We see marijuana going legal in California while some are involved in a lawsuit against McDonalds for a little fat in a happy meal. I don't know about you but I'd rather look in my rearview mirror and see a kid strapped in the back seat eating a happy meal than a pot head on a cannabis high who doesn't know how fast or slow they're going or if the traffic light is green or red. Not to mention that when a pot head gets the munchies, and they will, they will probably take the whole family to McDonalds for a happy meal.

Just today a video clip is whizzing across the media of Labor Secretary Hilda Solis saying "every worker in America has a right to be paid fairly, whether documented or not." As the Department of Labor offers help to the undocumented the definition of absurd has been bolstered yet once again. Let's see, if you have entered the country illegally and then you were hired illegally and that doesn't work out, just come to us for some legal help! These kinds of absurdities have become almost daily occurrences since the start of the Obama administration.

But don't worry the glittery fuzzy fairy dust of change has little chance of losing its magic as long as the Prez stays busy whipping and chastising big corporations, passing big healthcare packages we cannot pay for and sucking up oil in the Gulf with a straw. We and the main stream media, election officials charged with vetting candidates, states attorneys general, law enforcement agencies and senatorial committees are very busy even as we endure these stretches of credulity and sanity on a daily basis. Perhaps there's just too much eating, drinking and giving in marriage, opus citatum; even if it makes us, caecus ut nostrum ego ruina.

Other contradictory absurdities that are now on our daily menus are too numerous to mention here, which makes it so hard to come to an official conclusion. It's hard to rebuke someone for just doing what they always do. Living the simple life is a good thing if the distractions don't overcome the graceful beauty of an unencumbered lifestyle.

Is it possible to pervert an entire way of life, good judgment and perhaps an entire nation in the eyes of the Lord? I'll let the prophet Jeremiah answer for me.

"A voice was heard upon the high places, weeping and supplications of the children of Israel: for they have perverted their way, and they have forgotten the Lord their God." (Jer 3:21)
