A rhetorical question: Is God aware of the magnitude of the collapse of moral norms in America? The American Christian culture is becoming ground zero for the modern version of Sodom and Gomorrah. The unnatural phenomenon of same-sex attraction has become an accepted mainstream mentality perpetuated by earlier decades of pernicious same-sex activity. Although, decades ago same-sex activity could not be publicly celebrated with abandon as it's done today, because homosexual acts were unlawful up to the middle of the 20th century. Then came the sex, drugs, rock and roll era of the 1960s. After the 60s, little by little, decade by decade the taboo of same-sex attraction weakened. The point of no return came from the U.S. Supreme Court's Lawrence v. Texas (2003). SCOTUS declared that the Texas statute making it a crime for two persons of the same sex to engage in certain intimate sexual conduct violates the Due Process Clause. SCOTUS decisions have implications nationwide. Never mind that the higher authority of God doesn't permit such same-sex activity as per Leviticus 18:22, 20:13, Romans 1:26-27, 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 and Jude 1:7.

In 2003, shortly after the decision of Lawrence v. Texas, the Massachusetts Supreme Court handed down Goodridge v. Department of Public Health, holding that same-sex couples could no longer be excluded from civil marriage rights in the state. The dam of morality restraining the modernism of same-sex behavior was cracking and under severe strain. During the next dozen years, one by one, more states granted the legality of same-sex marriage. by 2015, states legalizing same-sex marriage reached 35. Then SCOTUS stepped in to render its pro-homosexual decision in Obergefell v. Hodges in 2015, ruling the fundamental right to marry is guaranteed to same-sex couples by both the Due Process Clause and Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment of the Constitution. Even though over two dozen states still have statutes that ban same-sex marriage, those statutes are now unenforceable under the Obergefell ruling. This is because after Obergefell, same-sex marriage is legal in all fifty states. That's the power of SCOTUS.

This demolishing of the sacred barrier protecting traditional marriage took decades. This barrier surrounding traditional marriage could not have fallen all at once. It would have been too much of a societal shock to accomplish that objective too fast. Barriers shielding morality are breached one by one, stretching over the course of generations. The reversal of this type of immorality is far off. The younger the generation, the more acceptance there is for the same-sex lifestyle. This scandal goes beyond civil society. It has affected the Christian religion dramatically. The Catholic Church is straining under the weight of heterodox prelates attempting to normalize same-sex activity. They found an advocate in Pope Francis. In 2023, Francis approved the informal blessings of homosexual unions. Francis' document, "Fiducia Suppplicans," allows priests to bless same-sex couples so long as the blessings do not appear to endorse their same-sex marriage or union, and are conducted in a non-litugical setting. Honestly, it's impossible to portray those blessings as benign blessings. Notice how Francis has not instructed these priests to warn these participants in same-sex marriages and unions to discern God's plan for them, which is to separate and cease the homosexual lifestyle. The homosexual lifestyle will always be explicitly condemned in the Catholic Catechism, which is imbedded in Christ's instruction to Peter in Matthew 16:18, "And I say to thee: Thou are Cephas and upon this Cephas I will build my church, and the gates of hell will not prevail against it."

There appears to be no safe shelter of absolute moral clarity to ride out this storm of same-sex immorality. Liberals in civil society and heterodox prelates in the Catholic Church are conflating where the line is drawn on morality and immorality in the homosexual lifestyle. And this same-sex lifestyle is not static. Now that "marriages" are commonplace for same-sex couples, the next step is adopting children. Homosexul marriages frustrate God's specific plan of procreation via man and woman. The conjugal marital act is designed for husband and wife and is impossible for same-sex couples. Consequently, same-sex "marriage" is a sterile and barren facsimile of traditional marriage. Therefore, same-sex couples attempt to adopt children.

A few years ago in Michigan several lesbian couples tried to adopt children but were turned away by religious faith-based agencies. This resulted in a lawsuit against the state. Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel made a deal to resolve the lawsuit brought on by lesbian couples, thereby prohibiting faith-based agencies from excluding same-sex couples from adopting children. So, St. Vincent Catholic Charities sued the state challenging the deal the Michigan Attorney General made for the lesbian couples. District Judge Robert Jonker, for the Western District of Michigan, blocked the attorney general's deal. This outcome could be seen in advance. A few months earlier, in Fulton v. City of Philadelphia, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of Catholic Social Services. SCOTUS ruled the city of Philadelphia could not terminate the adoption contract CSS had with the city. The court's ruling allowed CSS to refuse adoption to same-sex couples. Otherwise, Philadelphia would trample on the religious rights of faith-based adoption agencies, found in the First Amendment. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services said the high court's ruling against Philadelphia is binding on the state (Michigan) and limits its ability to enforce a non-discrimination policy. The other 49 states should take notice of this legal outcome.

The secular infiltration of homosexuality in the American lifestyle is actually the lesser concern. Because the thousands of Christian religions of the Western World have generally "caved to the culture." The actual Catholic faith remains unchanged on all the culture war issues, i.e., abortion, same-sex lifestyle, transgenderism, suicide of the mortally ill, serious sexual sins, etc. But the Vatican in Rome has gone weak on some of the sins of these culture wars. In a heterodox way, Pope Francis laid the groundwork for a (confusing) paradigm shift on homosexuality. Afterwards, Pope Leo makes no attempts to refute Francis' rethinking of the homosexuality lifestyle in Catholic life. That is, Pope Leo has yet to stop the blessings (affirmations) of same-sex unions and marriages, which would teach that homosexuals must separate and stop scandalizing those around them, especially children.

To the well informed orthodox Catholic, these two popes may have been accounted for already. Our Lady of La Salette is a Marian apparition in La Salette, France (1846). Later approved by local Bishop Philibert deBruillard in 1851 and then approved by Pope Pius IX the same year. The French "deux papes vermoulus" is translated as "two worm ridden popes." And the spiritual message indicated these popes will be "one after another." I just hope I can live beyond these two "worm ridden popes."

Any writing skill I have comes from determination and perseverance. I began by writing letters to editors of local newspapers always from a conservative or religious perspective. From mid-2011 to mid-2026, I've had 375 letters printed mostly in various daily newspapers. A general range of topics covers religious freedom, abortion, LGBTQ issues, politics, recreational marijuana and illegal immigration.

I have three paperback books in print through Dorrance Publishing: "Bible Letters to the Public Editor" (61 pages), "Scripture Letters in the Public Square" (107 pages), and "Culture War Letters in the Public Forum" (262 pages). This third book relies less on biblical references applied to the modern world and instead equally mixes biblical, science, medical, political, conservative and Catholic mentalities in my letter writings applied to the modern world.
