Sixty years ago, America began to experience a breakdown of morals at an accelerating pace. It was rooted in the 1960s era of sex, drugs, and rock and roll. It was largely contained to the emerging baby-boomer generation of the '60s and '70s. As a baby-boomer, I was there. The parents of the baby-boomers were the last decent standard-bearer of American morality. Those parents are generally known as the Greatest Generation, who came of age during the Great Depression and fought or sacrificed during World War II.

In 1973, the U.S. Supreme Court added fuel to the immoral fire with Roe v. Wade, which recognized a constitutional right to abortion. And same-sex attraction began to come out of the woodwork at a slow but steady pace. But politics was still generally holding a line against runaway immorality in society. But, to use an obscure metaphor, a lot can change when the "horse has left the barn" and runs on "forever," unchecked. That's what's happened to American morals 60 years after the sex, drugs, and rock and roll era.

Today's morals have shifted dramatically in recent decades. The latest iteration of declining morals is most heinous of all—i.e., transgender ideology. And politics has engaged this ideology full force. One side of politics is in favor of this burgeoning ideology (Democrats), the other side of politics is against this ideology (Republicans). To use the same metaphor, the (transgender) "horse has left the barn" and the Democratic Party has no intention of putting this rampaging horse back in the barn. The worst part is that authorities in some Democratic states are given legal rights to separate minor children from their parents because the Christian parents refuse to let their child transition to the opposite sex.

Case in point. Source: LifeSiteNews.com, "California takes girl after parents oppose 'gender transition,' moves to put her up for adoption." In an ongoing saga, an Orthodox Christian woman, who is a legal Ukrainian immigrant, lost custody of her teenage daughter for opposing the daughter's gender transition. The Ukrainian woman and her husband have "no custody conflict" and "fight unanimously" to protect the daughter from being adopted out to a gender-affirming family by the state. The parents claim their daughter was secretly transitioned in the public school system in California. California Governor Gavin Newsom has signed a law that bans schools from requiring parental notification about children's gender confusion.

This is not an isolated incident. There are plenty more heartbreaking instances of this happening in the U.S. Two years ago in Montana, a father and stepmother lost custody of their 14 year-old daughter to the state's Child and Family Services (CFS) because the parents were "unable or refusing to provide medical care" to their daughter who wanted to transition to the other sex. Gender transitioning is a psychological disorder, there is nothing "medical" about the issue. Medically or surgically transitioning to the other sex doesn't solve the underlying issue that is falsely perpetuating the transgender fantasy.

This transgender problem was rampant during the Joe Biden presidency. It was well known that President Biden advocated and advanced transgender ideology. At the 2022 National and State Teachers of the Year event, Biden advised the teachers about their students: "They're not somebody's children, they're like yours when they're in the classroom." Biden repeated this message to the same teachers at the 2023 Teachers of the Year event. In conjunction with the Biden administration on this matter, The National Education Association (the largest teachers' union in America) had issued a "Legal Guidance on Transgender Students' Rights." Embedded in these "rights" is guidance to legitimize transgender privacy rights in public schools, without any parental notification. Translation: Parents are unaware the public school is facilitating the transgender disorder of their child and setting the child on a path to switch genders.

President Donald Trump is trying to reverse the perverse policy of the Biden administration on gender-transitioning in public schools. Last year, his administration threatened to pull federal funding from 40 states that have sex-education programs with embedded pedagogy (theoretical concepts) in the curriculum concerning gender identity and transgender people. The current Department of Health and Human Services said the Trump administration has an "ongoing commitment to protecting children from attempts to indoctrinate them with delusional ideology."

One hundred years ago, the U.S. Supreme Court settled an issue that concerned compulsory public school education versus parental rights of parochial school education. The Supreme Court case of "Pierce v. The Society of Sisters" is very relevant to today's transgender indoctrination of children in public schools in opposition to parental rights of Christian parents, who intend to raise their boys as boys and girls as girls.

From the Oregon Encyclopedia: "Mixing the Devil's Broth: The KKK and the Compulsory Education Act of 1922." The Ku Klux Klan was instrumental in getting the Act passed, because they wanted all children in Oregon to attend public schools. That would mean all Catholic schools would have to shut down. That was the intent of the KKK. They hated the Catholic Church, and by extension hated Catholic education. This was their way of strangling the Church's mission. To the contrary, with the help of the Knights of Columbus, the U.S. Supreme Court case Pierce v. The Society of Sisters (1925) struck down the Oregon statute that required all children to attend public schools.

The ruling of Pierce v. The Society of Sisters is a landmark case in substantive due process, establishing that certain personal liberties, such as parental control over education, cannot be infringed without clear, compelling justification. Such as: Affirming parental rights in education and understanding the balance between state authorities and individual liberties in the United States.

Quoted from Pierce v. The Society of Sisters: "The child is not a mere creature of the State; those who nurture him (parents) and direct his destiny (parents) have the right, coupled with high duty, to recognize and prepare him for additional duties."

Our current U.S. Supreme Court should review this work of their predecessors and lawfully apply its results to keep the American public school system from usurping parental authority regarding the moral grounding of their own children.

Any writing skill I have comes from determination and perseverance. I began by writing letters to editors of local newspapers, always from a conservative or religious perspective. From 2011 to date, I've had 360-plus letters printed mostly in various daily newspapers. A general range of topics covers religious freedom, abortion, LGBTQ issues, and politics.

I have two small books in print through Dorrance Publishing: "Bible Letters to the Public Editor" and "Scripture Letters in the Public Square." My third book with Dorrance, "Culture War Letters in the Public Forum" (260 pages), is very near completion. This third book relies much less on Biblical references applied to the modern world.
