Harry Reid and the Pequod
By Harold Witkov
In American literature, Captain Ahab's obsession to destroy the great Moby Dick is legendary. Sensing his impending meeting with the "White Whale," Ahab asks his blacksmith to forge a special harpoon for the occasion. From his harpooners, he demands that the harpoon be tempered and baptized with their blood. Thus, the fate of Ahab, the harpooners, and the ship are sealed.
Like Ahab and his men, Harry Reid & crew seem hell-bent on destroying one-sixth of our economy (the American health care system). Last Saturday night, Captain Harry (Ahab) Reid and sixty harpooners voted in favor of debating the Senate health care bill; the first step in forging their own special harpoon designed to pierce and destroy American health care as we know it and, with it, the American economy.
"Call me Ishmael" if you like, but should the Senate health care bill come to pass and eventually unite with the House bill, I fear that America will sink faster than the Pequod.
