John F. Kennedy has been quoted as saying that there are powerful hidden forces at work aimed at moving world events and that he intended to learn their identity before his presidency was completed. Of course, that ambition was short-circuited by an assassin's bullet on Nov. 22, 1963. Accused shooter Lee Harvey Oswald's (later reported) communist background was downplayed or ignored by an establishment media that had salivated to pin the blame on the "right-wing political climate" in Dallas, the scene of the shooting. The media and other key influences of public opinion attempted, in the following weeks, to recoup from the embarrassment of their early snap judgments by assigning responsibility on unidentified "hate."

Several years earlier, in a 1954 speech on Capitol Hill, Senator William E. Jenner (R-Indiana) had declared there existed "a well-organized political action group" that was "determined to destroy our Constitution and establish a one-party state." The importance of this powerful force, according to the senator, "is not its ideology, but its organization" that "operates secretly, silently to transform our government...answerable neither to the President, the Congress, nor the courts. It is practically irremovable."

Today, opponents of this power center have labeled it the "Deep State." What exactly is it? Where are such power players to be found?

Tom Fitton, President of Judicial Watch, a Washington-based group whose civilian sleuths appear to engage in "round-the-clock" probing of the darker corners of our body politic, says the Deep State comprises "legions of "political appointees, career public servants, and powerful private contractors" who run the government no matter who sits in the Oval Office.... And, no matter what is the will of the American people, [no] matter who's in power, they exert control."

Fitton adds, "Oftentimes [like right now in 2018], the liberal media effectively operates as the propaganda arm of the Deep State."

Longstanding underground gets scrutiny

Such is the view of best-selling author Jerome Corsi, whose previous works (including The Late Great USA) have been reviewed in this space – who has taken on the Deep State and has done massive research on its mischief. This time, he offers Killing the Deep State. Appropriate to what is currently the front-page issue, Mr. Corsi subtitles his book The Fight to Save President Trump. However, the inside pages go much beyond the battles our current chief executive has encountered with Deep State operatives. Mr. Corsi sees the Deep State's clandestine agenda as seeking "to further the 'New World Order' goals of creating a borderless, classless One World Government" and "One World Currency" controlled by the likes of the United Nations, the International Monetary Fund, and the European Union.

And here at home

The Deep State was in retreat during the administration of Ronald Reagan, according to the author, who writes that the forces which make up the cabal resumed their influence during the four presidential administrations that immediately followed – the two Bushes, Clinton, and Obama. Deep State heydays were again sidelined under Donald Trump.

Power brokers used to having their way more often than not sometimes assume that such privilege is their right. They can become quite accustomed to using their influence in education and entertainment to keep the "great unwashed" satisfied and less likely to sass back their betters. But such authoritarians who abuse their great advantages often finally cast aside their surface good manners and bare their fangs when hugely humiliated and exposed.

That is what happened on November 8, 2016, when the champagne bottles were chilled and ready for uncorking for the big Election Night celebration of the victory of the Deep State presidential candidate, Hillary (Madame Inevitable) Clinton – only to see the celebration evaporate.

That was just too much. The Deep State operatives simply could not help themselves. To put it in the vernacular, they went "bonkers." And ever since, they have waged non-stop political, psychological, and sometimes street thug violent warfare that has as its announced goal the ouster of a duly elected sitting president. This is way beyond the arena of political debate protected and encouraged by our Constitution. It represents the subversive type of warfare advocated years ago by Chicago community organizer Saul Alinsky in Rules for Radicals – a two-pronged power push from the top (the elite power centers) combined with a violent push from the bottom (the street thugs). Freedom gets the squeeze in the middle. Even the violent protests of the sixties were less bold in their goals.

Defining our terms

Before proceeding further, we should offer an explanation not specifically spelled out by Mr. Corsi in Killing the Deep State: His full-length book makes an added detailed outline unnecessary there. Our more brief review here makes clarity more appropriate: The Deep State is not a formal organization with coordination top to bottom and a big boss pushing the buttons. Even such mischievous billionaires as George Soros and Tom Steyer would find the task somewhat akin to "herding cats," though their negative influences are not to be denied. This is a combination of very strong sources – individuals and entities in various professions and organizations in and out of government, almost entirely on the left (some unwitting "middle ground non-political types," and of course the usual opportunists, wittingly or unwittingly, go along). They see themselves as looking out for their best interests, which they see as pointing (for whatever reason) in similar if not the same directions, sometimes heavily tinged with Marxism. Highly centralized coordination is not required.

Spies, dupes, and diplomats

The story of the so-called "Russian collusion" investigation, as Jerome Corsi writes, eludes special counsel Robert Mueller – not just because he has failed to find evidence pinning nefarious dealings on the counsel's target, Donald Trump. It's just that the real Russian "collusion" occurred on the part of Democrats, with both Clintons – Bill and Hillary – involved up to their ears. With apologies to the Beatles' hit song "The Long and Winding Road," that title applies to the Clintons' get-rich-quick international uranium scheme, and is a tale you can follow in detail in the book Killing the Deep State. We here will give a very few fascinating highlights, including a spy story on U.S. soil.

It all began several years back when Bill Clinton and a Canadian business partner named Frank Giustra decided they were going to corner the uranium market in Kazakhstan. (Giusta created a company in 2005 named Uranium One). This venture ended with Russia acquiring 20 percent of all U.S. production of uranium, with the approval of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Former President Clinton's (and Hillary's) Clinton Foundation pocketed a cool $500,000 for a speech Bill delivered in Moscow, paid for by a corporation controlled by Russians with close ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin. The "cover story" for this venture was the foundation's purchase of HIV drugs, even though, the author says, the HIV problem at the time in Kazakhstan was "virtually non-existent."

The Clinton/Giustra partnership was poised, however, to "walk off" with a deal whereby they acquired a considerable slice of Kazakhstan's possession of 12 percent of the world's uranium resources and 28 percent of its production. That enraged Vladimir Putin, given that Kazakhstan was formerly a part of the old Soviet Union. (Information on the Russian leader's reaction was attributed to Andrew McCarthy of National Review). The result of Putin's ire was that the hapless president of the Kazakhstan agency that runs the country's uranium mines ended up in the slammer (maximum security prison, no less) on charges of "stealing" and "embezzling."

Again skipping over many details of changing ownerships, hidden influences, and deals and transactions during Putin's uranium recovery chase, the Russian strongman decided to "deploy spies to the United States, with the goal of "bribing the Clintons to allow the Russian-owned company Rosatom to acquire Uranium One. The aim, apparently for starters, was to recapture interests that Uranium One had managed to capture.

The spy chase

Putin's espionage operation in the U.S., as it turned out, had easy access to a Kremlin-controlled trucking company, Tenex, a Rosatom subsidiary. Tenex, through Tenam USA, was operated in Bethesda, Maryland, by Vadim Mikerin, a Russian from Rosatom. Mikerin engaged in a scheme that defrauded American contractors into paying inflated prices for uranium, with the excess proceeds laundered through shell companies and secret bank accounts overseas.

The fraudulent Russian "spy/bribery/racketeering scheme" was discovered by the FBI in 2009 when an informant exposed it to the FBI and the FBI secretly recorded it. On October 17, 2017, the Hill newspaper broke the story that the FBI had suppressed knowledge of the scheme after it learned what was going on. Corsi cites Robert Mueller and Rod Rosenstein, then U.S. attorney in Maryland, as having knowledge of the scheme. The FBI probe of the Rosatom/Tenam case was based in Maryland, where then FBI Director Mueller had put the investigation of the case under the control of Rosenstein. On May 17, 2017 – about a year ago – Wikileaks released a State Department cable that documented Secretary Clinton ordering Mueller "to deliver a sample of stolen uranium to Russia in 2009." Exactly why the then-FBI chief was sent on the secret mission has not been explained.

The pivotal vote

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton served on the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), an inter-agency panel. She voted twice, in 2010 and 2013, to approve Rosatom's acquisition of Uranium One. The committee voted this through without being informed that the FBI had been investigating the Russians since 2009 on this yet-to-be-fully-publicized scandal – a scandal not examined by a media that today beats the dead horse of "Russian collusion" supposedly on President Trump's part, a scandal Robert Mueller has been in a position to know the inside story about as the real "Russian collusion."

Hillary denies having personally voted the issue on the committee, but Mr. Corsi cites records showing that she was in "close contact" with Jose Fernandez, who cast the proxy vote. If this scandal ever gets the pitiless light of publicity it deserves, it will dwarf Watergate. Maybe this largely hushed-up move by some Deep Staters will bring that mysterious entity to America's focused attention.

Back in the fifties, the late investigative author Ralph de Toledano wrote "Spies, Dupes and Diplomats" about Soviet involvement in pre-Pearl Harbor Japan. That title could suggest what is revealed in much of today's Killing the Deep State by author Jerome Corsi.

The "Eve of Destruction?"

Author Jerome Corsi believes President Trump is in serious danger.

Writing in Killing the Deep State, he warns that, should the Deep State fail to remove President Trump from office through impeachment or a charge under the 25th Amendment that he is mentally incompetent, "executive action" – a plan to assassinate Trump – is the Deep State's last resort. To some, including this writer, that latter concern may seem overdrawn. But then, many of us were jolted when Mr. Trump's election led to a (mostly) non-shooting undeclared civil war, including, as noted above, widespread use of Saul Alinsky's Rules for Radicals to inflame extremely vocal and threatening opposition to the president. The U.S. is a world power now, in fact the last hope of the world. In this space, we have warned of a planned overthrow by subversive forces. Then when we see signs of its approach, we don't want to believe the nation in which we were brought up may actually be on the precipice or destruction. The point is, unless Trump can be made to abandon his "America First" agenda, the globalists in the Deep State have already decided that Trump must be removed from the presidency – "one way or the other." In the sixties, there was a propaganda song that – from a leftist perspective – warned the U.S. was on "the Eve of Destruction." In this later era, is that threat about to impose destruction on every pro-American value we hold dear?

Fighting back

So Mr. Corsi has a list counter-measures:

1 – A criminal prosecution that would include scandals such as the Uranium One affair.

2 – Investigation of Democrat plots that would include those launched to profit by selling military technology under the guise of Hillary's Russian "reset" policy.

3 – A probe to avoid permanent damage the Clintons have inflicted on America's reputation for honest/charitable giving.

4 – Identification and indictment of those at the IRS (beyond Lois Lerner, who took the Fifth and retired) who were responsible for targeting conservative and libertarian organizations, while allowing George Soros and his ilk to enjoy tax exemptions for their leftist foundations as they spread their agendas.

5 – And here's another scandal almost as big as Uranium One (it needs to garner more public attention): The author devotes considerable space to the "respectable" HSBC Bank (one of the largest banks in the world, headquartered in London), which was caught up in "criminal money laundering hundreds of millions of dollars [for] helping Mexican drug cartels and terrorist organizations with ties to countries like Iran to launder [that money] into the U.S. banking system from foreign sources." During that era, Robert Mueller was FBI Director, followed by James Comey. They should be held accountable because they, along with Attorneys General Eric Holder and Loretta Lynch, "all knew the bank was involved in criminal money laundering, yet were satisfied to be paid a fine that to HSBC amounted to nothing more than the cost of doing business."

Summing it up

This review has been the equivalent of a "snapshot" of a book jam-packed with the entire goods on an organized effort to drive the president from office. You will have to read Killing the Deep State to get that whole story and much more.
