What happened to Michelle Malkin's "Twitchy"?
By Bryan Fischer
Not too long ago, noted conservative Michelle Malkin started a website called "Twitchy" to track and publicize what goes on in the Twitterverse. I, along with many other conservatives, follow it faithfully.
That's why I was surprised to see the Twitchy staff, presumably hand-picked by Ms. Malkin, land on Cliff Kincaid like a falling safe.
Cliff Kincaid of Accuracy in Media wrote an excellent piece, "CPAC and the Conservatives," which makes the incontrovertibly true statement, "There is no such thing as a 'gay conservative,' unless the term 'conservative' has lost all meaning." This is why CPAC was entirely right in refusing GOProud a role as a sponsor of the event the last two years.
CPAC would not allow organizations that advocate for bigger government, higher taxes, and Socialism to serve as sponsors either, for the simple reason that none of them are conservative values. Neither is sodomy or sodomy-based marriage.
The Twitchy staff immediately went into overdrive, reposting Tweets that all but decapitated Kincaid. His column was variously described as "garbage," "offensive," "one of the most disgusting pieces I have ever read," "intolerant, rambling filth," "a cold-blooded murder of the truth," and, well, you get the idea.
Donors were ordered by Tweeters to stop funding Accuracy in Media immediately, and the firestorm generated enough heat that AIM's chairman, Don Irvine, tried to get as far away from Kincaid as he could, throwing one of his own valued staffers under the train. Said Irvine, "Accuracy in Media does not agree with his assertion that it is impossible to be both gay and conservative."
Well, we've heard from an AIM staffer, we've heard from the head of AIM, and we've heard much more than we wanted to from the Twitchy staff and bile-filled Tweeters all across the fruited plain. We have not yet, however, heard from the head of Twitchy, Michelle Malkin. It's time for her to step up.
The chairman of AIM had no problem distancing himself from a rock-ribbed conservative who is a highly valued member of his own team. It's time for Ms. Malkin to distance herself from her own Twitchy team, which is flagrantly disobeying the 11th Commandment and, far worse, trying to redefine conservatism while doing it.
Inquiring minds want to know: do you, Michelle Malkin, agree with the Twitchy team's frontal attack on Cliff Kincaid, normative sexuality and the institution of marriage?
Conservatism is a house of four walls, as all well-built structures are. Strong national defense, fiscal conservatism, the sanctity of life and the sanctity of marriage are those four enduring, indispensable walls. Pull one of them down, and the structure will eventually collapse. Michelle Malkin's team has just laid an IED at the base of one of these walls. Will she stop them before it goes off?
