The world is holding its breath waiting for the first sign of blood. Almost inevitable since Trudeau has stepped up his resistance to the protestors and maintains his refusal to negotiate with his own citizens.
Edging closer to disaster as the New York Times blasts the headline “Truckers Arrested at Gunpoint as Police Advance Against Ottawa Protest” – what could go wrong?
Pushing the standoff and refusing to be placated, it is quite clear that Trudeau has lost the battle in the hearts of Canada, and with many Americans as well. But it is Canada that will decide in the next election.
About seventy of the Freedom Convoy’s leaders have been arrested and many have been accused of mischief charges.
Interim Ottawa Police Chief Steve Bell said that so far, no protestors have been hurt. There are many Canadians that feel the entire nation has been wounded by the government’s crude, cruel and implacable treatment of the peaceful protestors.
The Anchorage Daily News reports, “The crackdown on the self-styled Freedom Convoy began in the morning, when hundreds of police, some in riot gear and some carrying automatic weapons, descended into the protest zone and began leading demonstrators away in handcuffs through the snowy streets as holdout truckers blared their horns."
The News adds, "Tow truck operators — wearing neon-green ski masks, with their companies’ decals taped over on their trucks to conceal their identities — arrived under police escort and started removing the hundreds of big rigs, campers and other vehicles parked shoulder to shoulder near Parliament. Police smashed through the door of at least one RV camper before hauling it away."
The protestors are facing fines, arrests, humiliation, and tyranny, but no willingness to talk coming from the clownish and cowardly Trudeau.
Reuters said, “There were tense moments during the day as some protesters were dragged from their vehicles, and others who resisted the police advance were thrown to the ground and had their hands zip-tied behind their backs."
Reuters continued, "The protesters showed 'assaultive behaviour,' forcing mounted police to move in 'to create critical space' in the late afternoon, according to a police statement. As this happened, one person threw a bicycle at a horse and was arrested for harming a police service animal, police said.”
As tensions rise – Trudeau sinks in the hearts of many Canadians. But some of them can imagine a man waving a rainbow flag with his face painted black all the while laughing like a drunken fool, and that is why they endure the insult, the severe weather and the tyranny.
The danger of escalation is ripe. The Business Standard says it this way…”Police continued negotiating with the protesters and trying to persuade them to go home, [Chief] Bell said. "We want this demonstration to end peacefully," he said, but added: "If they do not peacefully leave, we have plans."
Canada has many citizens that are Catholic and Christian people who are fully aware of the Lord's teaching on self-control.
“When thou goest with thine adversary to the magistrate, as thou art in the way, give diligence that thou mayest be delivered from him; lest he hale thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and the officer cast thee into prison. I tell thee, thou shalt not depart thence, till thou hast paid the very last mite.” (Luke 12: 58-59)
It is appropriate that in the same passage comes the warning for the cowardly Trudeau and the zealous militants and police that are dealing with the protestors. To wit:
“Ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky and of the earth; but how is it that ye do not discern this time? Yea, and why even of yourselves judge ye not what is right?” (Lk 12: 56-57)
An education in theology is not required, but only a familiar adage – If the shoe fits, wear it.
