Old soldiers, young athletes, and the 'overwhelming spread of evil'

Delbert Belton dodged bullets, shells and extreme danger on the far distant shores of Japanese held Okinawa only to return to his beloved homeland, and in his golden years to be beaten like an animal in the parking lot of an Eagles Club for a bit of pocket change and left alone to die.

Christopher Lane, a 23 year old Australian athlete and baseball enthusiast was shot in the back by three teens that chose to end their boredom by squashing his precious life as if he were no more than a nuisance insect on a summer day.

Oklahoma was host to Australia's pride, but America's idle minded teens saw him as a nothing but a chance to experience some of the American penchant for violence upfront and in real time.

The cable and network news rushed in with their customary bevy of experts, police, social workers, psychiatrists, and along with their own opinions, they tried to convince us of the real reasons these horrible events have transpired.

We find little comfort when terms like, 'anti-social psychopath' roll across our ears, yet once again. Everything from single parent homes to media and Hollywood sponsored violence is brought up hurriedly discussed and we transition to the market numbers, the sports scores and the tip of the day without losing a beat.

The reports are all dappled with plenty of distracting commercials to interrupt the stories, and then, it's back to business as usual, but the faces, the uniqueness, the hopes and aspirations of these individuals and the sense of good lives being wasted, weighs heavy on our hearts, for days, perhaps, for years.

It is here we can say to the experts – thanks for nothing.

Some people might form their own answers and their own unique method of handling the teens that killed without conscience.

Marines who still believe in honor and service might like to force the teens who slaughtered 'Shorty' Delbert to sit down and watch reel after reel of the old black and white war films that show the death and carnage on the remote and far distant island of Okinawa, then slapping the teens silly before dumping them in the courts to be tried as adults.

Millions of Americans long to have their representatives issue carefully worded apologies for allowing one of Australia's favored sons, Christopher Lane, to be cut down in his prime. In this day when representatives are doing everything but speaking for us, that may be too much to ask.

Our, 'If I had a son' President, may be willing to side with race baiters, or be very busy drawing meaningless 'red lines' in the Middle East, or just continuing to improve his golf game, but even if he does conger and apology, a statement or a few comforting words for Australians, we know where he'll be tomorrow.

Tomorrow, Mr. Obama will be doing what we have all become accustomed to since his administration began. He will be actively choosing which agency to use like a hammer to smash American pride. Will it be the IRS, the DOJ, or the EPA, or just a visit to late night TV shows to blast Rush, Cruz, Paul, Graham the Tea Party or the latest individual or organization that stood up to point out his growing tyrannical and unconstitutional use of power.

Are the thugs and teens carrying out these latest heinous crimes just following his lead? Has Mr. Obama replaced Martin Luther's dream with 'Barry's nightmare. Is freedom and equality not enough? Must revenge have its pound of flesh and is vengeance part of the 'Change we can believe in.'

Is Barack Obama the example our youth is following?

Has gay pride superseded American pride and have minorities really gotten all they deserve with free phones, entitlements and the name and title they heretofore lacked, namely the – 'One Percent.'

Even after a generation of gay indoctrination and crass materialism the freedom fighters and civil rights leaders of the sixties would be insulted and embarrassed at the causes people are putting forward today. They would be insulted if you tried to buy them off with free phones and embarrassed to stand and boldly proclaim that a base, perverted sexual preference is really something to be held up as a legitimate 'civil right.'

We are no longer uncertain, this is the generation spoken of that has sunk to the depths of reprobation. We are no longer bordering on confusion about good and evil, we have managed to just put them in reverse. The dumbest, yet the most educated generation in history, actually plans to live out the entire future of man this way – except for the 'woe' pronounced by scripture.

"Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!" (Isa 5: 20)

Do godless liberals and wishy washy libertines feel fully assured that this generation will not wake up and notice that they have been robbed of the knowledge of God, true American history, the vision of the founders and some old fashioned common sense. Will they sail off to mine the natural resources of the moon, and skip across the planets in search of traces of the one celled amoeba that might explain where their sorry lives originated? Will the one that actually created them allow them this rite of passage? Will this hopeful excursion succeed or will man be subject to God's timetable in which – the clock has now nearly run out?

America is an old man aged and ailing who will not eat, death is near and the appetite has fled. He won't choose the healthy meal to strengthen his bones and has rejected the food fit for kings offered by the Eternal God, (the gospel) the only source of nourishment that feeds the souls of men and prepares them for the troubled days ahead.

Christ proclaimed that as the last day's approached a sweeping and pervasive change would encumber men and would help to bring in the final judgments warned of by every true prophet of old and preacher of the day. It is perhaps one of the simplest warnings in all of scripture, yet, it is supremely prophetic, since it is part of that famous prophetic message known as the 'Olivet Discourse.'

The most familiar rendering comes from the King James Version of the bible and it says: "And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold." (Mt 24: 12) A far more powerful rendering comes from today's Message Bible, to wit:

"...For many others, the overwhelming spread of evil will do them in – nothing left of their love but a mound of ashes." (Mt 24: 12 The Message)

In the likely event our President whose love even for our own country seems to have 'waxed cold,' does not offer an apology, let this author, your humble servant, offer these words.

To every Marine and brave soldier who has fought for this nation from the proverbial 'Halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli' we apologize for the terrible treatment and loss of one of your finest and bravest – Mr. Delbert 'Shorty' Belton.

To the nation of Australia, we apologize for the callous, cold and thoughtless way Christopher Lane was treated. We are not worthy of your young hero, and we pray that God will comfort you in your period of national mourning. Please rest assured that many of us feel the sense of shame for not protecting your young athlete from the evil that seems to be beleaguering our nation in this moment in time. We are sorry.
