PJ MEDIA — U.S. Marine Mitchell Paige faced a horde of Japanese soldiers as his company’s sole survivor in Guadalcanal. But for ten hours, defying all odds, Paige held the line. Today marks the birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps. Even before the United States had declared its independence from Great Britain, in Tun Tavern in Philadelphia, on Nov. 10, 1775, the Marines came into being. The Marine Corps has since earned the reputation of having the toughest fighters in the military. As their song says, they will always fight our country’s battles, whether in air, on land, or on sea.... (more)

WASHINGTON FREE BEACON — Washington Post opinion editor David Shipley hand-selected the cartoon lampooning Hamas that he pulled amid blowback, the cartoon's author, Michael Ramirez, told the Washington Free Beacon in an interview. Ramirez, a veteran political cartoonist who has twice won the Pulitzer Prize, said he presented Shipley with "seven, eight, or nine different sketches on a wide variety of topics" for the Post editor to choose from. Shipley, Ramirez said, "right off the bat" picked a cartoon that depicted Hamas leader Ghazi Hamad using women and children as human shields while saying, "How dare Israel attack civilians."... LEGO EDUCATION — Although STEM and STEAM look and sound similar, there is one very big difference — the inclusion of the arts. This can encompass any creative subject from fine art and drama to graphic design, photography, and even English literature. STEAM offers a broader approach, making its definition more abstract. STEM aims to equip learners with “future-ready” and practical skills by focusing on the teaching of science, technology, engineering and math. STEAM can also equip learners with these skills, but additionally fosters a love of creativity and imagination by bringing arts into the equation. STEAM is often considered more inclusive than STEM because it allows kids who are naturally more gifted in creative subjects to feel valued and to let their talents flourish.... (more)

NEWSMAX — Embedded with Israel Defense Forces troops, Newsmax correspondent John Huddy accompanied the military into Gaza City on Wednesday. Huddy witnessed civilians carrying white flags and fleeing the city, he reported on "American Agenda." The IDF is pushing into the city to look for Hamas terrorists and tear down its infrastructure, including a network of tunnels, and look for hostages taken during Hamas' Oct. 7 attack on Israel.... AMAZON — With over 70,000 copies of the first edition in print, this treatise on public education has been a New Society Publishers’ bestseller for 10 years! Thirty years in New York City’s public schools led award-winning teacher John Taylor Gatto to the sad conclusion that compulsory schooling does little but teach young people to follow orders like cogs in an industrial machine. This second edition describes the widespread impact of the book and Gatto’s innovative "guerrilla teaching" (Amazon). Must read.... (more)

THE GATEWAY PUNDIT — Kash Patel, former Chief of Staff to the Acting Secretary of Defense, joined Steve Bannon on the War Room on Thursday to discuss his testimony before the Colorado court in the left’s latest attempt to remove President Trump from the ballot in Colorado. During his testimony, Kash Patel laid out how President Trump called for the National Guard on January 6 but was shot down by Speaker Pelosi, the heads of the Capitol Police Bureau, and the Mayor of Washington DC at the time.... MILWAUKEE INDEPENDENT — Most Americans who are bent toward socialism do not identify themselves publicly as socialists. Nor do they employ the Marxian slogan that socialism is the wave of the future. Nonetheless, they have a way of looking at things that embraces the idea. The American approach to socialism is gradualist, piecemeal, and step by step; it is by way of government intervention, government-provided welfare programs, and government regulation and control.... JAY EVENSON, DESERET NEWS — I have an 8-year-old granddaughter in Virginia who is being home-schooled. Her mother didn’t know she was part of a powerful nationwide trend bubbling just beneath the surface of American culture, brought to light this week in a Washington Post report. The most important thing to her, she told me in a text, was to be able to meet her daughter where she is, academically — adjusting lesson plans to move quickly through materials she has mastered, while spending more time on things her daughter is struggling to learn.... DESERET NEWS — Matthew Perry, who was found dead Saturday at age 54, did not speak about faith often, but the stories he did share highlighted religion’s pivotal role in his life and career. Last year, as he promoted his memoir “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing,” Perry told Bill Maher, the host of “Real Time with Bill Maher” on HBO, that his “very close relationship” with a higher power helped him through his addiction recovery. “I believe there is a higher power,” Perry said, according to The Christian Post. “I have a very close relationship with Him that’s helped me a lot.”... JUST THE NEWS — The CDC recommends getting a flu and COVID-19 vaccines at the same time, deeming this "coadministration" not only convenient but "safe." Its own researchers won't go that far, and neither will the FDA's, including the head of the agency's vaccine safety office. Both agencies have now found a small risk of stroke in older people who get the two vaccines on the same day, part of increasing global interest in severe adverse events (SAEs) in older populations at naturally higher risk from SARS-CoV-2.... JOHN STOSSEL — President Joe Biden says 24 million Americans "suffer from food insecurity!" News anchors were shocked that there is "food insecurity in the richest country in the world!" ABC hosts turned "insecurity" into "hunger." But in my new video, Rachel Sheffield, who researches welfare policy at the Heritage Foundation, explains, "Food insecurity is not the same thing as hunger. It just means that they had to rely on cheaper foods, store-brand alternatives ... or reduce variety." Really? The alarm about "food insecurity" is based on that? Well, yes. Even the U.S. Department of Agriculture, in its fine print, admits that "for most food-insecure households, the inadequacies were in the form of reduced quality and variety of food rather than insufficient quantity."... NEWSMAX — House Republicans on Monday introduced a plan to provide $14.3 billion in aid to Israel by cutting funding for the Internal Revenue Service, setting up a showdown with Democrats who control the Senate. In one of the first major policy actions under new House Speaker Mike Johnson, Republicans unveiled a standalone supplemental spending bill only for Israel, despite Democratic President Joe Biden's request for a $106 billion package that would include aid for Israel, Ukraine and border security.... THE FEDERALIST — Last month, Mitt Romney announced he will retire from the Senate after one term. Romney, who is 76, cited his age. That was undoubtedly a major consideration for a guy with a platoon of grandchildren. It’s also true that Romney is unpopular with Utah voters and had no real chance of reelection after becoming the most prominent elected Republican antagonist of Donald Trump. With Romney’s 30-year political career ending with a whimper, there would naturally be a forceful attempt to shape his legacy as something other than a failure.... (more)

THE FEDERALIST — Many people today believe the world is overpopulated and that we are running out of natural resources. This belief is based on the false premise that humans are a burden on the planet and that resources are fixed and finite. The truth is that humans are capable of creating more resources and solving more problems than they consume or create. The more people there are, the more opportunities there are for education, collaboration, and innovation that can benefit everyone.... (more)

EDDIE SCARRY — There’s a simple pattern that the media follow when covering each new crisis that pops up during Joe Biden’s catastrophic presidency: A calamity occurs either domestically or abroad, and rather than examining the cause, the media instantly frame Biden as a hero at battle. PJ MEDIA — In 452, an unarmed and unaccompanied Pope Leo I met Attila the Hun outside the gates of Rome and singlehandedly persuaded him not to sack the city. In 1095, Pope Urban II gave a rousing speech to the assembled nobles in Clermont, France, which launched the first of a series of Crusades to liberate the Holy Land from the bloodthirsty Turks. In 1801, Pope Pius VII successfully negotiated a concordat with Emperor Napoleon, effectively protecting religious freedoms for Catholics and Protestants alike from the oppressive zeal of the revolutionary Left.... BOB UNRUH — Amid the Washington, D.C., reign of Joe Biden, whose actions often target and try to punish Christians in America on issues he has chosen as his primary focal points, like abortion and transgenderism, the new House speaker bluntly has put himself in the opposition. Rep. Mike Johnson, newly elected to the speaker's post after Rep. Kevin McCarthy was removed, said, "Go pick up a Bible off your shelf and read it – that's my worldview. That's what I believe, so I do not apologize for it."... (more)

MADELINE CRABB — For a few weeks, scores of Americans have been upset over the inability of the U.S. House of Representatives to select a new Speaker.
