World Down Syndrome Day
Kurt Kondrich
March 21, 2010, is World Down Syndrome Day — an annual event that promotes awareness and understanding of Down syndrome and related issues, and the day mobilizes support and recognition of the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with Down syndrome.
As the father of a beautiful 6-year-old daughter Chloe who has Down syndrome, I am very aware of what a priceless blessing it is to have a child with an extra chromosome. Chloe has planted more positive seeds in 6 years than most people do in a lifetime, and her unconditional love and purity are something this nation and world could truly use right now.
Beneath the Light of World Down Syndrome Day is a very dark secret that receives very little publicity. Because of advances in prenatal screening, children with Down syndrome are aborted at a rate of 90+ percent once identified in the womb. This silent eugenics movement has made Chloe and all individuals with Down syndrome an endangered species, and they could very well become extinct if people do not wake up.
With society becoming more and more obsessed with "perfection" and prenatal testing becoming more and more advanced, I wonder which group of people will next be targeted prenatally for their "perceived imperfections." Will they identify the "autism" gene, the "obesity" gene, the "short" gene, or the "gay" gene, and will anyone be left to sound the alarm?
I pray you all will take time on March 21st to meet and interact with a person who has Down syndrome, and maybe your personal connection will give you a voice to help end this prenatal search and destroy mission of individuals we should all strive to be like.
About Kurt Kondrich:
I am the father of a beautiful daughter who has Down syndrome, and she has been a priceless Blessing to our family and community. When I became aware of the 90+% abortion rate for children diagnosed with Down syndrome in the womb, I literally could not sleep at night. In early August 2008 I had a disturbing dream about people with disabilities being exterminated, and it woke me up at 2:15AM. After praying I came up with the name SADSIN (Stop Aborting Down Syndrome Individuals Now). I have since embarked on a mission to make sure people are aware of this genocide. I want people to see the beautiful faces of our kids and realize the priceless Blessings and Gifts they are to a society that has lost focus. Please take time to read my stories, and I would love your feedback. The photo is my daughter Chloe's picture on the big screen in Times Square for the National Down Syndrome Awareness Video — not bad for a 4 year old! God's Blessings to you always.
