WES VERNON — News and entertainment media, to say nothing of the history books, have inundated Americans with their own political versions of our nation's founding and the political officials and other alert Americans who followed, including our 45 presidents (for whatever the proficiency of their efforts as "keepers of the flame" may have been). By no means, however, are those who made great strides in their contributions to the nation's direction confined to our elected or officially appointed public servants. In fact, some of those "outside the Washington bubble" had an impact that was much more than simply "noteworthy."... (more)

Kate Brown said Thursday that she plans to sign a sweeping, unprecedented bill requiring insurers to provide free abortions for their customers, including illegal immigrants. "The ability to control our bodies and make informed decisions about health are critical to providing all Oregonians the opportunity to achieve our full potential and live productive, thriving lives," the Democratic chief executive said in an email. Thoughts on the nature of true freedom
ALAN KEYES — These days, we celebrate the Fourth of July as Independence Day. Actually, it's the day when the first American patriots declared their decisions to break away from the people of Great Britain and stand thenceforth as the people of the United States of America. The Declaration includes, as it were, a bill of impeachment against the king of Great Britain. But it does not begin with a statement of grievances. It begins by stating the convictions, in respect of right, rights, and justice, upon which its signers concluded that the actions of the king's government were violations of the highest Sovereign's will, grave enough to justify the war that had already begun....
