ALAN KEYES — The word "person" may have its roots in a Latin word that referred to the character an actor portrayed in a drama, and quite possibly even to the mask ancient actors once wore (or held in front of their faces) to represent their characters. This etymology reminds us that the dichotomy between what we can perceive and what remains inevitably hidden behind every act of human perception appears to be an indefeasible aspect of human nature... CLIFF KINCAID — The Washington Post is not sloppy, it is dishonest. Forget Kenya or Hawaii as Barack Obama's birthplace. The issue is that he was mentored by a communist named Frank Marshall Davis, who taught him that blacks had a "reason to hate" and that Christianity was the white man's religion.... (more)

NEWSMAX — Three separate attacks carried out in the United States on a single day -- a New York bombing, a Minnesota mass stabbing, and a New Jersey pipe bomb blast -- were under investigation Sunday for potential terror links.... (more)

WASHINGTON TIMES — Investigators scrambled Sunday night for clues behind an apparent terrorist explosion that rocked New York on Saturday as the Islamic State claimed credit for a Somali immigrant's stabbing rampage in Minnesota... (more)

NEWSMAX — Donald Trump has built a New York City real estate empire on $885 million in tax breaks, grants and incentives that have helped him lower construction costs and sell apartments within those core properties at higher prices because of lowered taxes, according to news reports.... (more)

WASHINGTON EXAMINER — Without mentioning Donald Trump by name, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed indirect support for his presidential campaign on the basis of Trump's stated desire for amicable U.S. relations with Russian.... (more)

ANDREW C. MCCARTHY — The Obama State Department is convinced that Syrian dictator Bashar Assad and his regime's cronies are financing terrorism. How come? Well, because they conduct business in cash. In fact, in its most recent annual report on state sponsors of terrorism, State frets "that 60 percent of all business transactions [in Syria] are conducted in cash and that nearly 80 percent of all Syrians do not use formal banking services." This has created a "vast black market," the components of which are exploited by "some members of the Syrian government and the business elite . . . in terrorism finance schemes."... (more)

WASHINGTON EXAMINER — Rep. Keith Rothfus, R-Pa., argued in the weekly GOP radio address that the federal government has taken over every aspect of the lives of ordinary Americans. "A regulatory superstate has replaced the sovereignty of the people," he said. "So-called experts in Washington churn out all kinds of rules and red tape without accountability, hurting millions of Americans."... (more)

CLIFF KINCAID — One of my favorite Andy Griffith episodes shows Goober growing a beard to try to look smart. Picking up an apple, he declares, "One time you was a seed." Unfortunately, the extreme makeover didn't work for Dana Milbank of the Washington Post during an appearance on the Clinton News Network (CNN). His new beard didn't disguise the loony opinions that have become his hallmark... (more)

PHILIP KLEIN — Donald Trump has famously vowed to "Make America Great Again," but his actual vision for the nation has less in common with Ronald Reagan (who used the phrase in his 1980 campaign) and more in common with Lyndon Johnson's "Great Society," which represented one of the most massive expansions of government in American history... WASHINGTON EXAMINER — Donald Trump outlined a revised campaign tax reform proposal Thursday that would seek to decrease losses to the Treasury by limiting tax breaks across the board, a policy that will invite opposition from a range of interests and advocacy groups... (more)

NATIONAL REVIEW — Donald Trump and his allies had been privately celebrating Hillary Clinton's stumbles -- first on the campaign trail last weekend and then in the polls this week, which seemed to tighten dramatically after the former secretary of state was forced to disclose that she had been diagnosed with pneumonia and misled the media and the public about it.... NEWSMAX — Jimmy Fallon poked fun at Hillary Clinton's recent medical woes during a show taping Friday, wearing a medical mask when he first greeted her on the set of "The Tonight Show." JOSEPH FARAH — Donald Trump's scheme to get Washington more involved in the rearing of children is a bad idea and an unconstitutional one at that. It needs to be said, even as I see some so-called "conservatives" praising the initiative. Let's count the ways this notion fails the practical and constitutional tests:... (more)

MONA CHAREN — There may be valid criticisms of the Trump (Ivanka as much as Donald) child-care proposal, but the New York Times and the Huffington Post did not find them. As is always the case with new proposed social spending, the New York Times chides the United States for being so very retrograde... (more)

WORLDNETDAILY — The Obama administration is moving forward with plans to relinquish U.S. control over Internet domains, but many conservatives are demanding the president not change what is working fine by ceding control to other countries, which could then limit the content their own citizens can see... WORLDNETDAILY — While the Supreme Court of Virginia has agreed to hear a challenge to the non-discrimination policy in the commonwealth's largest school district, the lead counsel in the case warns that the impact of the court's decisions will go far beyond bathrooms and eventually impact every student -- including to the point where boys will be "bedding down" with girls on overnight school trips... CLIFF KINCAID — The media are returning to their protective mode regarding Hillary Clinton, after pretending to raise questions about her health. But very few questions have been answered. Here are some that still linger: (1) Mrs. Clinton and her media entourage have claimed in the past that her coughing fits were caused by allergies. So what really caused her to leave the 9/11 memorial and nearly collapse?... (more)
