CLIFF KINCAID — Some of us in the media watchdog business think Americans are anxious to read every last word from the New York Times and the Washington Post. These are important papers that do help shape the national agenda. But many people look instead to publications like the National Enquirer – the tabloid solidly in the corner of Donald J. Trump, the one he used to smear Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX). Similarly... (more)

CHELSEA SCHILLING — Is it a Google Earth road map? A snow camouflaged tent? Or a white marble-patterned hospital gown? America wants to know: Just what is Democratic Party nominee Hillary Clinton wearing these days? Clinton's attire stunned America when she attended a fundraiser in Cape Cod Sunday alongside singer and actress Cher.... (more)

NEWSMAX — Several former members of Sen. Ted Cruz's staff called out Donald Trump for softening his stance on immigration, with one calling it "a betrayal." "It vindicates the speech, it vindicates what Ted Cruz warned would happen during the course of the campaign," Chris Wilson, who served as the Cruz presidential campaign's director of research, analytics, and digital strategy, told Politico.... WASHINGTON EXAMINER — While many in the media have declared the presidential election all but over, damning accusations of pay to play at the Clinton Foundation and reports that the FBI found 15,000 work-related documents that Hillary Clinton failed to turn over represent the political land mines that still lie between her and the presidency. Multiple ongoing Freedom of Information Act civil suits, perjury allegations, an IRS probe and alleged joint U.S. Attorney-FBI investigation into the Clinton Foundation represent the inescapable cloud of corruption that could be the Democratic nominee's undoing.... TIMOTHY P. CARNEY — The snow fell slowly, in huge clusters of flakes, the wind barely there. Robie's General Store in Hookset was John Kasich's Arcadian backdrop for his final campaign event before the New Hampshire primary. Kasich beamed. It was a beautiful scene. The cinematic perfection wasn't lost on the candidate, who turned to everyone around him, including us reporters, and said, "Isn't this great? Don't you love this?"... (more)

NEWSMAX — The tumultuous presidential race in America is playing out against a backdrop of rising tensions between Ukraine and Russia -- and has already altered policy in Kiev and Moscow, according to a veteran Moscow-based journalist.... (more)

NEWSMAX — More than half the people outside the government who met with Hillary Clinton while she was secretary of state gave money -- either personally or through companies or groups -- to the Clinton Foundation. It's an extraordinary proportion indicating her possible ethics challenges if elected president.... (more)

ANDREW C. MCCARTHY — For our recent "Tricky Hillary" issue (National Review, Aug. 1, 2016, on NR Digital), I wrote a feature arguing that Mrs. Clinton should be impeached. Given that, through the last quarter-century of our politics, we have learned that pending Clinton scandals are interrupted only by new Clinton scandals, it comes as no surprise that my point has just been proven by a scandal that erupted last week.... THE HILL — Last week the Obama Administration approved its largest-ever release of detainees from Guantanamo Bay, sending 15 extremists back into the world. By now, the pattern has become familiar: the President lets hardened terrorists go free, Congress and the American people express outrage, and the White House ignores the uproar.... (more)

DAVID A. PATTEN — The mainstream media is doing such a fine job of heaping coals on the new Mark Burnett and Roma Downey epic, "Ben-Hur," that it might want to be careful. The intensity of their vituperation might just induce movie-goers -- particularly faith-oriented ones -- to go see what all the fuss is about.... (more)

BOB UNRUH — The Supreme Court in Pakistan is scheduled this fall to hear the case against Asia Bibi, a Christian mother of five on death row since 2010 for violating the Muslim nation's notorious blasphemy law. In a report from International Christian Concern, legal advocate Said-ul-Malook said the hearing -- likely the last one in the case -- will be in October before the nation's Supreme Court.... In a newly filed lawsuit, the "Tied Up In Knots" author alleges sexual harassment from fired network executive Roger Ailes, "O'Reilly Factor" anchor Bill O'Reilly and former Massachusetts Republican Sen. Scott Brown.... (more)

NEWSMAX — One school district in Maryland thinks it has the "right answer" on how to deal with transgendered males on overnight field trips: they bunk with females and don't tell their parents. According to a story in The Washington Times, Anne Arundel County chief communications officer Bob Mosier produced a training video instructing teachers and administrators to withhold that information from parents to protect the privacy of the transgendered males.... NEW YORK MAGAZINE — Donald Trump did not win the Republican primary on the strength of his policy proposals. The GOP nominee won much of his party's Evangelical base despite betraying a profound ignorance of their views on abortion; he earned plenty of votes from conservatives who backed the Iraq War, despite deriding it as a total disaster; and he won the backing of countless opponents of Obama's stimulus package, despite running on a $1 trillion infrastructure plan.... WASHINGTON EXAMINER — Turmoil in Donald Trump's campaign is eroding his claim to be a great manager -- one of the key boasts he's made in his bid for the presidency. Critics, including academics, Republican political strategists and at least one former Trump operative say that the seemingly constant hirings and firings at the top of Team Trump, and a failure to plan for the general election, undermine the idea that he is a talented boss....
