Donald Trump: The natural born leader

Lest we forget, a number of the 2016 candidates who ran for the presidency did not meet the requirement of natural born citizenship. The Founders created this standard only for the presidency, to safeguard against the election of a president with any iota of divided loyalties. The formula, for which the Framers of the Constitution consulted Emer de Vattel's The Law of Nations, is simply this: one born on the soil of citizen parents. That's "parents" – plural.

Yet, Marco Rubio, Bobby Jindal and Ted Cruz all ran for the highest office in the land, though none of them were natural born citizens, regardless of what certain pundits may have claimed.

In fact, Ted Cruz, Trump's closest rival in the race for the Republican nomination, epitomizes precisely the kind of divided allegiance that Article II Section 1 seeks to prevent in the presidency. First of all, Cruz was born in Canada. Equally important, Cruz's father was a citizen of Cuba at the time of his birth. And his mother, though originally a U.S. citizen, had expatriated to Canada, and had possibly become a Canadian citizen by the time of Cruz's birth. But even if she retained U.S. citizenship at that time, it would not change the fact that Cruz was emphatically not a natural born citizen.

As one Constitutional scholar puts it: the definition of "natural born citizen" involves three essential factors, functioning like the legs of a three-legged stool. Remove one or two legs and the stool cannot stand. These three legs are the requirements that both parents be American citizens and that the child be born on American soil.

This is why there was so much attention paid to the question of where Obama was born, since if he'd been born abroad, he would not have qualified to become president. Unfortunately, the press never did its due diligence – yes, I know – and the Republicans focused only on Obama's birthplace.

They needn't have. Obama was ineligible because his father was not an American citizen. Period. He was a citizen of Kenya at the time of Obama's birth and, in fact, never became an American citizen. And his mother was only 18, so she failed to meet the requirement in the case where only one parent is a U.S. citizen (already unconstitutional, but who's counting), i.e. that parent must reside in the United States for 10 years, at least 5 of which have to be after age 16. Oops. This should have made headlines when Obama began running for office. The fact that this issue was so easily hushed up is a testament to the effect of our schools having omitted U.S. civics from the curriculum for so many years.

Why do I mention all this now? In part because one of the Left's darlings, Kamala Harris, like the aforementioned politicians, fails the natural born citizen test. Her father, a Jamaican citizen, emigrated to America in 1961, and her mother, an Indian citizen, emigrated to the U.S. in 1960. Since the naturalization process takes some 5 years, and Kamala was born in 1964, her parents could not have been naturalized U.S. citizens at the time of her birth. Therefore, Kamala Harris is not a natural born citizen. Not even Willie Brown can help her with this one.

But merely being a natural born citizen certainly is no great accomplishment and no assurance that such a person will be a good, let alone a great, president.

That's why we're extremely blessed to have a President who's not only a natural born citizen, but also something far more rare: a natural born leader. And this is why President Trump, in his first ever foray into politics, and in a mere two years, has arguably accomplished more of benefit to the American people and the world than most of his predecessors in modern times. Think about just a few highlights: He's brokering peace with North Korea and has met with Kim Jong Un not once but twice – unheard of under any other administration. He's pulled America out of bad trade deals such as the TPP and NAFTA, and the notorious Paris Climate Accord – all of which would have drained our country's wealth, decimated our middle class, and stifled our businesses, while richly benefiting corporate globalists. He exited the dangerous Iran Deal that would have allowed Iran to annihilate Israel in the not too distant future. He's moved the American Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem – something several presidents promised to do and failed to deliver. He's unleashed American energy production and brought our jobs and economy roaring back. He's slashed taxes for the middle class. I could go on...

And, more than remarkably, he did all this while yet a first-timer in politics, with a juggernaut of anti-Trumpers arrayed against him, including: Democrats, RINOs, Progressive Leftists, globalists, Soros-sponsored groups ad nauseum, Hollywood, the pope himself, and virtually the entire mainstream media – all united in demonizing and attacking him – many on a daily basis.

And yet he keeps winning.

This is beyond Shakespearean. This is Biblical.

2020 is looking good.
