Duck Dynasty dust-up
By Sam Weaver
Webster defines "bigot": 1) a person who holds blindly and intolerantly to a particular creed, opinion, etc. 2) a narrow-minded person. "Creed" is defined: 1) a brief statement of religious belief; confession of faith. 2) a specific statement of this kind, accepted by a church. 3) a statement of belief, principles, or opinions of any subject.
Upon first glance, it may seem to some that "Webster" is implying that anyone who believes the Bible is the inerrant, divinely-inspired Word of God is a bigot. Let's take a closer look at two key words – "blind(ly)" and "intolerant(ly)"...and two vital truths.
Anyone who accepts Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior does so as an act of faith – perhaps even blind faith. However, whenever a person truly accepts Jesus, the Holy Spirit begins to work in him. As long as he does not reject the work of the Spirit, the "wisdom" (i.e., the foolishness of man and/or) of this world fades away and the Wisdom of God begins to replace it. Darkness becomes Light. Faith – even blind faith – is rewarded with ironclad certainty. The true Christian does not hold to his beliefs blindly! [NOTE: Before you blindly and intolerantly reject this paragraph out-of-hand, please, please try it yourself! At least, find a true Christian and get to know him; talk to him with an open mind.]
GLAAD represents only a portion of the "LGBT community." [NOTE: This is evident not only in the prominent members of that community who have spoken out against GLAAD, but also in a significant number of tweets from average citizens of the LGBT community.] The LGBT community represents, at best, perhaps 5 to 6 percent of the population. Yet, GLAAD is a formidable force in American society. Why? Because Christians – and Americans in general – are tolerant! In reality, we are far too "tolerant" for our own good. Please see here!
One example of a bigot within the "Christian community" would be the person who clings blindly and intolerantly to Romans 1:18-32, but disregards Romans 2:1-16. Phil Robertson proved (see the final paragraph of this link) that he is no such bigot.
With a warning, I urge all of my readers to peruse the GQ article that started this whole "Duck Dynasty" flap. WARNING: This article is riddled with crude, vulgar and even vile language. Only a couple of the words uttered by the subject – Phil Robertson – of the article might be considered crude in this venue. The vile and vulgar stuff was stated by the author!
If you do choose to hold your nose and read Drew Magary's GQ piece, I would ask you very seriously to consider the opening paragraph of this article; specifically, sense 2 of the definition of "bigot" and sense 3 of the definition of "creed." Who are the true bigots in this "Duck Dynasty" dust-up?
I would say it is Drew Magary and GLAAD. I would never force my opinion on anyone. Like Phil Robertson, I will leave it to the Supreme Judge of the Universe to sort it all out in the end.
However, as long as I am alive and well in this world – on this Earth, I will fight to the death to preserve Liberty and Rule of Law in the United States of America. I will always remain faithful to the Great and Ultimate Source of Liberty and Law.
