Roeder's final words in the play Radium Girls

"I think back on those days – and I try to think – how could it have happened? I remember so clearly climbing the stairs to the studio at Alden Street. At the top of the stairs those wide, high windows, and the slant of light, the way it hit the floor, the way the floor creaked under my feet, the smell of the place, chalky, like an old school room, and all those girls – schoolgirls really, all bent to the task, in their plain green smocks, their delicate little hands moving so quickly. No man could work the way these girls did. So careful. So fast. Those brushes flying from the dials to the paint to the dials – to their lips. Try as I might, Harriet, try as I might – I cannot remember their faces. (The irony strikes him.) I never saw their faces." (fade to black) Radium Girls, a play in two acts by D. W. Gregory

First thing this a.m. I read Dr. Alan Keyes dissertation on desperation http://www.renewamerica.com/columns/keyes/160418. It is

understandable when one is aware that Dr. Keyes knows, as do I, that America's hope is as unproductive as is the labor of a tenured academician raised in the latest text-books of a culture of moral relativism, unless one's ultimate Hope is Creator God and His Text Book.

Dr. Keyes refers to the days of principled America when that which he calls "America's creed" (I, a few years back, entitled the Declaration of Independence "America's mission statement") anchored a moral consensus instructive for imperfect persons – for persons who understood that even very strong opinions do not indicate – even, dare I say "even among the elite peer-group-claque" – that one is omniscient.

I went back a few years (2012) to find something that I had written that described the political situation in my home state of Arizona that augured the despair now felt by even men of the caliber of Dr. Keyes.

Certainly, the secular jihad of the solely self-interested that was playing-out in so-called "conservative" Arizona is now clearly going on across our whole nation. It is even more clear, now 4 years later, that the only Hope of the hopeless upon Whom all personal liberty is possible – upon Whom this nation's life depends – is the God of Judaeo-Christianity.
