Gavin Newsom and other Democrats (including former Democrat Presidential Candidate John Kerry) have proposed to end the sale of new gasoline powered within the next 10 years. When I think of this proposal I can’t ignore the millions of gasoline powered cars that Americans use each day to get to work and use for a variety of reasons. To all of us that depend on automobiles to get around this proposal seems absurd. It is also an economic catastrophe.
Not only are electric cars much more expensive to buy but to ‘recharge’ their car’s batteries can take up to an hour. Also think of the thousands of gasoline stations in your states that hire thousands of people. Ultimately, their businesses will be closed over time if this policy goes into effect.
This is an industry (gasoline-oil industry) where there are some Democrat controlled states that have politically restricted oil companies from drilling in many areas in their state. Such is the case with the state in California. Many are aware that the state of California has some of the largest oil reserves in the country. Yet our Governor and his Democrat colleagues in the California state legislator continue to press for limiting oil drilling in their state. Considering that California has some of the largest oil reserves in the country, this is outrageous.
These restrictions of oil/gasoline productions by the federal and some state governments have cost Americans billions of dollars in personal expense. Just consider the time during the beginning of his term in office when President Biden immediately cancelled the XL Keystone Canadian pipeline. Cancellation not only affected the local economy in some states but it also affected the cost of your gas.
The other consideration to ponder is the cost of electric generated vehicles. New electric cars are considerable more expensive than gas generated vehicles. This cost difference will negatively affect people individually around the country.
Finally, we fail to hear from the Democrats how this policy of theirs will affect large transport vehicles including commercial trucking around the country. These transport trucks carry millions of pounds of products and other relative items that are publically needed by all of us. However, what will be disruptive could be the time that it takes to re-charge their commercial vehicles. Commercial truck drivers are paid by the time it takes to drive their trucks from one location to another. Finally, the cost of these new trucks will be more than gasoline powered trucks. Ultimately this expense too will be passed on to customers like us.
Sadly, most media outlets have not raised these concerns. They should!
