"For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous. Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you. We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death. Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him." (I John 3:11-15)

Ancient Church Fathers teach us that the "idea of offering sacrifice to God, of returning to Him the best things of earth, was placed in the conscience of man from the beginning of his existence." (1) Thus Abel, who was humble, grateful, and righteous, obediently slew a lamb, the very best firstborn lamb that he had. He did this out of the thanksgiving of his heart as a necessary sacrifice for his sinful condition and need for redemption.

Unlike Abel, Cain was narcissistic, ungrateful, arrogant, resentful, covetous, and possessed by the evil passion of envy. In his mind he saw no need for redemption since he was perfect just as he was. He was not a sinner and had no need of forgiveness even though he hated and envied Abel for being good. Thus with great disdain he unwillingly offered some of his second best fruits and then murdered his brother.

Abel's righteous heart showed that Cain had a cold, dark heart. He was a self-righteous hypocrite, a liar who though refusing to kill a lamb, did not hesitate to murder his brother and offer him up on the altar of his self-idolatry, ingratitude, rage, envy, and rebellion.

Church Father Irenaeus points out that Cain – who offered sacrifice for the sake of appearance and obligation and murdered his brother out of envy – can be likened to the Pharisees in the time of Christ. They too made offerings to God with the same deceptive motives and murdered Christ out of the same evil passion of envy. (Against Heresies 4.18.3, ANF 1, p. 485)

The Envy of the Dragon

"And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world – he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him." Revelation 12:9

The supernatural Triune God is a God of goodness with a preferential love for man, the special object of His redemption and glorification. It was this divine, ineffable love that drove the dragon into such envious rage that he sought to seize God's throne and in league with his legions of demons concentrate on seducing men to rebel against God and forever condemn themselves.

With Cain the devil succeeded. Cain imitated the dragon in his idolatry of self, ingratitude, arrogance, and envy-fueled murderous rage against his brother Abel:

"By the envy of the devil, death came into the world." (Wisdom 2:24) The cause of envy was the happiness of man placed in Paradise, because the devil could not brook the favors received by man. His envy was aroused because man, though formed in slime, was chosen to be an inhabitant of the garden." (1)

With "grim face and screaming voice" the spirit of envy "delights in evil" (2)

In his book, "The Seven Deadly Sins Today," Henry Fairlie unmasks in part America's cult of envy:

"The legend of our times...might be, 'The Revenge of Failure.' That is what envy has done for us. If we cannot paint well, we will destroy the canons of painting and pass ourselves off as painters. If we will not take the trouble to write poetry, we will destroy the rules of prosody and pass ourselves off as poets. If we are not inclined to the rigors of an academic discipline, we will destroy the standards of that discipline and pass ourselves off as graduates. If we cannot or will not read...we will dispense with reading. If we cannot make music, we will simply make a noise and persuade others that it is music. If we can do nothing at all, Why! We will strum a guitar all day and call it self-expression. As long as no talent is required, no apprenticeship to a skill, everyone can do it, and we are all magically made equal, and failure has had its revenge." (Miceli, pp. 81-82)

Envy is one of the most corrosive and cold-blooded vices of all. It is the spirit of resentment, covetousness, and burning hate; of bitterness and discord; of obsessive plotting and scheming for vengeance; of unrelenting evil thinking. It is a sower of lies (such as Darwinism, Teilhardism, and other anti-creation, anti-Christ origin accounts), suspicion, dislike, contempt, and distrust between neighbors, friends, brothers, sisters and spouses. In its' inordinate desire for fame, high repute, popularity, and acceptance here on earth it degrades and crucifies its' brother through contention, slander, identity theft, gossip, back-biting, malicious whispering, murmuring and the spreading of destructive rumors. Its' voracious fangs and talons gnash, tear and rip open the back of its' brother while its' poison corrodes his good name, character and spiritual virtues.

The spirit of envy is the character assassin par excellence and when it cannot goad its' brother into degrading himself it will proceed first to physical violence and then finally to destroy and murder its' spiritually invincible brother, thus Cain slew Abel.

In "The Roots of Violence," Vincent P. Miceli, S.J., writes that the curse of envy,

"...more than any other sin, has the capacity to create a hell on earth. For it provokes men to avarice and spiritual gluttony in a fierce, often violent, attempt to outstrip rivals by fair or foul means in the accumulation of riches and honors in this life." (p. 79)

More than any other sin, the spirit of envy is the chief source of fighting, disordered and evil passions, murder and wars:

"Whence do wars and quarrels arise among you? Is it not from this, from your passion, which wage war in your members? You covet and do not have; you kill and envy and cannot obtain." (James 4:3)

Envy is the great leveler fueling America's Democratic Leftist voters – the cult of the unrestrained. The cults spirit of envy levels everyone down to the same common denominator. If anyone is not equal in virtue, intelligence, beauty, courage, success, talent, wealth, position, prestige, and happiness, the envious conclude that a grave injustice has been imposed on themselves – the less fortunate, the entitled victims of a socially, economically, and sexually unfair, unjust society such as the traditional American society – the creation of backward anti-science, anti-evolution, mainly white racist deplorables in Americas' great fly-over zones where they hold fast to Jesus Christ, the Bible, guns, and rights.

Hybris degenerating into vaskania: insolence, shaming, arrogance, insult, abuse, violence, and malign victimization at the touch of a glance (Evil Eye) committed against inferiors (deplorables) by their superiors (god-like ruling class) (2)

The remedy, according to our 'superiors' – America's Godless Left-Right ruling class – and their 'voice' – the mainstream media – is to tear down and destroy everything. Unmake the Bible and Gods' created order (i.e. evolution in place of creation, and genderless beings instead of "He made them man and woman"). Rewrite history, reinvent holidays (festival of lights instead of Christmas) and tear down historic statues and monuments. Brand as hateful, bigoted, homophobic, and racist everything from America's founders, founding Christian grounded worldview, the Ten Commandments, standards, monogamous marriage, sexual ethics, rules, traditions, single-family housing, the Second Amendment and traditional cultural mores.

Deplorable traditionalists – the miserable low-life hominids who dared rise up against their 'superiors' by electing President Trump must be led into self-destruction – slavery to sin, self-degradation, obscene sexual perversion, spiritual mutilation, financial and intellectual poverty – and if that fails, they must be eliminated.

During the 20th century, Communist Marxism – like its contemporary counterpart – was burning hatred of the Christian God (Triune Creator), His 'deplorable' children by adoption (John 1:12, 11:52; Romans 8:16; 1 John 3: 1-10), ingratitude and murderous envy masquerading as utopia, peace and social justice. Like Cain, Communist Marxism imitated the dragon in its idolatry of self (Big Brother), arrogance, defiance, and rebellion against God and in its envy-fueled murderous rage. Whereas Cain slew Abel on the altar of his self-idolatry, hate and envy, Communists murdered between 60,000,000-100,000,000 of their brethren, sexually perverted their children, blasphemed God and systematically desecrated and destroyed His houses of worship.

Today Marxism's 'green' spiritual counterpart – the green dragon embraced and promoted by our ruling class – masquerades as the savior of our planet and messianic bringer of peace, and globally sustainable social, economic, environmental, religious, and 'gender' justice. Additionally, while progressive Pope Francis pushes evolution, interfaith, climate change, and the earth goddess Pachamama (3), progressive-minded Reformed Presbyterians and Southern Baptist thought-leaders are bringing evolution, social justice, 'gay' marriage, intersectionality and other elements of the dragon's utopian gospel of envy, and death into an unwary church.

Envy can be likened to a spiritual law, a governing principle. It follows a predictable downward spiraling path of self-destruction and represents a suicidal streak in man – a spiritually evil desire to murder God and brother and pull everyone else down into an egalitarian herd society, a utopian anthill swarming with evolved faceless apes where everyone can do everything, have everything, be everything, experience everything. And if he cannot be God, then like the demonized Nietzsche, he will proclaim His death, and like the demonized Karl Marx, seek the destruction of the West, America, the world and everything in it.

Sharing in what it is To Be the Dragon

Scripture combines narcissism with hard-heartedness, ingratitude, lying, hatred, jealousy, covetousness and envy into a single concept: idolatry of self and rebellion against God in imitation of Satan. The dragon's self-idolatry and envy are his entire being and the only things he can offer man. Thus by being narcissistic and envious, Cain and all who are like him, share in what it is to be the dragon.
