Two dates in people's lives

I have been trying to get an appointment to see a replacement mental health doctor. Finally I got through and here I am. I was checked in by the Psychiatric nurse I will call "Mr. D." I was wearing my veterans ball cap which I usually do when I go out. It is amazing when other vets see it they say hello and come talk to me. I love the camaraderie. I love being a vet!
I got my blood pressure checked, my weight was checked (lost a lot, whoo hoo!). I don't remember how the conversation started but here is were it got real interesting!
Mr. D was at a military promotion ceremony. For those who have never seen a promotion ceremony, the commanders, first sergeants and you are on stage. You can have friends or family actually "pin on" your new rank. Family and friends are in the audience. Film photography is encouraged to record the events.
Two men in uniform came up. He pinned on the new rank. Next was something he will not forget. To his surprise the men gave each other a passionate kiss. It dawned that they were married.
The ceremony was over and Mr. D went back to his office. One of his subordinate troops came in and wanted to know what he thought about the two married military men. I will not forget what he said. He stated he had a hard time explaining the situation to his young troop. Very few people applauded the couple and this is a leftist city. The mayor had just stated the city would abide by the Paris climate accords. Mr. D said in a few minutes his whole career passed through his mind. He looked at me and said, "It's time for me to retire. For me not being able to explain to my troop without having my response being twisted and being called a racist, its time to go." And he did. That is a shame. So much for freedom of speech.

I am up early morning and open my PC. The headlines blasted, "SAN ANTONIO TRAILER DEATHS."
The next day in the city of San Antonio Texas, the local AM talk radio is all a buzz about the human trafficking story resulting in the death of 10 illegal aliens. San Antonio is a sanctuary city*. We have humans being shipped over the boarder like peaches. Illegal drugs are coming over the boarder like gang busters. Criminals and drug cartells are using Texas highway 10 and 35 as their roads of choice. From the east coast, the west coast and the Midwest, drugs-illegal's and overseas crime are infecting the nation. The mayor of San Antonio, the Chief of Police Mc Manus and elected Sheriff Javier Salazar have stated they will not help the ICE enforce the counties immigration laws. There more worried about bathroom laws than murder human beings.
Before you condemn me answer this question. How many people have to die in terrorist attacks, in the back of semi trucks and drug overdoses before we enforce our nations boarders?
100. 1,000. 10,000.00. 100,000. 1,000,000. Give me an answer.
*Sanctuary city is a term applied to cities in the United States or Canada that have policies designed to not persecute illegal aliens that violate U.S. Criminal Law.
