Though bankrupt, ACORN is succeeding in its subversive mission
By Michael Gaynor
Obama is about to deliver as much "health care reform" as possible, fulfilling his commitment to ACORN. Obama has not been exposed and forced to retreat, but ACORN has been exposed and forced to reorganize. It's a small price for ACORN to pay to have America abandon its traditional values and adopt ACORN's socialist way. (ACORN advocates "share the wealth" socialism under the human rights brand, not the toxic socialist or communist labels. Beck and Fox News opted to promote the radical Marcel Reid and her little ACORN 8 band and that worked for Obama, because, unlike ACORN whistleblower Anita MonCrief, they are Obamatons.)
Only in America: ACORN will be filing for bankruptcy soon, but it has achieved its basic goal — putting Obama in the White House to implement ACORN's radical political agenda — and that will fundamentally transform and bankrupt America unless the truth about Obama AND ACORN prevails promptly.
On March 19, with an expected House of Representatives vote on Obamacare two days away, Laura Ingraham issued an e blast titled "Freedom's last stand."
Ms. Ingraham's patriotic, passionate sense of urgency was unmistakable:
"Pick up your phones, freedom czars. Sunday is the day the progressive left has been dreaming of for generations. We have to stop them.
"Call these representatives and tell them to vote no. If you live near DC, be there tomorrow, Saturday, at noon in Upper Senate Park, across from the Capitol building.
"Time and travel costs may be a concern for some of you, but at what price will we surrender our freedom?"
That's the price of not exposing President Obama as the instrument of ACORN, SEIU and La Raza in socializing and bankrupting America, eventually expanding the Far Left's voting base by granting amnesty to illegal aliens, depriving workers of the secret ballot in elections of unioning (innocuously called Card Check).
Congressman Luis Gutierrez, an Illinois Democrat honored at the ACORN gala last year (with Senator Chuck Schumer of New York and Congresswoman Maxine Waters of California) will vote for Obamacare. (He wishes the bill was more illegal immigrant-friendly, of course, and so he claimed that he would vote no, but, be real, it was never so.)
Similarly, Congressman Dennis Kucinich of Ohio fell in line, after doing his best to make the bill look "moderate" by pledging to vote against it because it did not create a public option immediately.
If we follow the advice of sportscaster Warner Wolfe and go to the vidotape, we know that Obama wants the same single payer plan that Kucinich wants, but he realizes that he can't get in one "swoop."
Ironically, both the Far Left and some of the Far Left's better known bombastic opponents share responsibility for the imminent passage of Obamacare.
On the same day that Ms. Ingraham issued her e-blast, The New York Times reported that ACORN is on the brink of bankruptcy (http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/20/us/politics/20acorn.html?hp=&pagewanted=all).
Ian Urbina, in "Acorn on Brink of Bankruptcy, Officials Say":
"Acorn is holding a teleconference this weekend to discuss plans for a bankruptcy filing, two officials of the group said. They asked not to be identified because they were not authorized to speak to the news media.
"Over the last six months, at least 15 of the group's 30 state chapters have disbanded and have no plans of re-forming, Acorn officials said. The California and New York chapters, two of the largest, have severed their ties to the national group and have independently reconstituted themselves with new names. Several other state groups are also re-forming outside the Acorn umbrella, and will not be affected if the national organization files for bankruptcy.
"This week, the Maryland chapter announced that it would not reopen its offices, which were shuttered in September in the wake of a widely publicized series of video recordings made by two conservative activists, posing as a prostitute and a pimp, who secretly filmed Acorn workers providing them tax advice...."
The New York Times essentially conceded that the Republican National Lawyers Association, Fox News, Andrew Breitbart, James O'Keefe and Hannah Giles had won their war on ACORN:
"After the activists' videos came to light and swiftly became fodder for 24-hour cable news coverage, private donations from foundations to Acorn all but evaporated and the federal government quickly distanced itself from the group.
"The Census Bureau ended its partnership with the organization for this year's census, the Internal Revenue Service dropped Acorn from its Voluntary Income Tax Assistance program, and Congress voted to cut off all grants to the group."
Predictably, The Times described the ACORN agenda as "liberal," not socialist or subversive, and sanitized ACORN's illegal activities as best it could:
"A network that once included more than 1,000 grass-roots groups, Acorn, which stands for Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, was created in 1970 and has fought for liberal causes like raising the minimum wage, registering the poor to vote, stopping predatory lending and expanding affordable housing.
"But long before the activist videos delivered what may become the final blow, the organization was dogged for years by financial problems and accusations of fraud. In the summer of 2008, infighting erupted over embezzlement of Acorn funds by the brother of the organization's founder. Some chapters were also found to have submitted voter application forms with incorrect information on them during the lead-up to the 2008 presidential election, leading to blistering charges from conservative organizations linking Acorn's errors to the Obama campaign.
"'That 20-minute video ruined 40 years of good work,' said Sonja Merchant-Jones, former co-chairwoman of Acorn's Maryland chapter. 'But if the organization had confronted its own internal problems, it might not have been taken down so easily.'"
The Times erroneously reported that ACORN is being replaced, not remasked:
"Calls to Acorn's New York City offices, for example, are now met with a recording that says: 'Acorn is not providing services in New York. If you're interested in hearing from local organizations with similar purposes, please press zero.'
"The New York chapter has been replaced by a new group, called New York Communities for Change, whose Web site promotes many of Acorn's goals and many of whose staff and community members are the same.
"In Pittsburgh, Acorn officials said they were trying to continue work while they decided whether to stay with the national organization or form a new one. Maryellen Hayden, the volunteer director of Allegheny County's Acorn, said the group was continuing to counsel people facing foreclosure and had recently sent two buses with dozens of members to Washington to rally for the Democratic health care bill."
That sentence hints at what's really happening: Obama is about to deliver as much "health care reform" as possible, fulfilling his commitment to ACORN.
Obama was stoppable in 2008, but The New York Times killed an Obama/ACORN expose and the liberal media establishment supported instead of scrutinized presidential candidate Obama.
Ms. MonCrief could have proven what "Joe the Plumber" suspected, but it did not happen, so Obama was elected. See "ACORN WHISTLEBLOWER: OBAMA'S THIRD STRIKE?" (October 22, 2008) (www.webcommentary.com/php/ShowArticle.php?id=gaynorm&date=081022) and "Why Obama and ACORN Fear Anita MonCrief" (October 29, 2008) (www.webcommentary.com/php/ShowArticle.php?id=gaynorm&date=081029).
As the Age of Obama unfolded, Fox News, Glenn Beck and Andrew Breitbart put their eggs in the "Pimp and Pro" ACORN sting basket and reported on surreptitiously videotaped visits by James O'Keefe and Hannah Giles to ACORN offices.
The good news is that the reports hurt ACORN.
The bad news is that they did not hurt, and actually helped, Obama. SEIU and Obama should appreciate the sacrifice of the ACORN organization to implement the radical ACORN agenda.
