Obama is not a Christian. Obama is a secret Muslim. Obama doesn't love America.

(As a point of order, in this column I am not personally advocating for or against any of these propositions.)

The frothing, foaming outrage that denizens on the left pretend to have over these suggestions is a twisted wonder of modern psychology.

After all, leftists have made a career out of demonizing Christians and Christianity and blaming them for every evil of the last 2000 years, whether the evil is slavery, racism, materialism, greed, terror, or even the Nazis, who in the fevered imaginations of the left were nothing more than right-wing Christian nut jobs.

The president went out of his way just this month to urge the nation to "remember that during the Crusades and the Inquisition (Christians) committed terrible deeds in the name of Christ."

The left is in a frenzy of self-righteous indignation over Scott Walker's response to the Washington Post's question about whether or not Obama is a Christian. Said Walker, "I don't know."

But why in the world would leftwingers be upset if a conservative suggests Obama might not be a follower of the religion which is responsible for so much misery in human history? Why would they consider it an insult to suggest that Obama is not a Christian? Why on earth would they want him to be one in the first place?

According to their logic, conservatives would be doing them a favor by creating as much distance as possible between Obama and the Nazarene. To the left, Christians are nothing but a bunch of homophobic misogynists who are Islamophobes and xenophobes to boot. They are knuckle-dragging Neanderthals who believe the Bible instead of Darwin. Liberals, then, should be thanking conservatives for making the suggestion rather than heading for the fainting couch in a fit of apoplexy. "Oh, he's not a Christian after all? Whew – what a relief!"

Further, the outrage of leftists over suggestions that Obama may be a secret Muslim likewise makes no sense. If Islam, as leftists and Obama himself constantly bleat, is a wonderful and marvelous religion of peace, harmony and tranquility, calling him a Muslim would be a compliment. It would be a testament to his superior judgment in all things.

If indeed "Islam has been woven into the fabric of our country since its founding," and if indeed "Muslim Americans...make extraordinary contributions to our country every day," as the president said just last week, then calling him a follower of Muhammad would be a form of high praise. For conservatives to call President Obama a Muslim should be, according to their standards, one of the nicest things you could say about the man.

By taking such umbrage, they in fact are the ones suggesting that to call the president a Muslim is an insult.

The proper response to leftwingers should be, "If Obama is not a Christian, what exactly would be wrong with that?" Regarding Islam, the response should likewise be the same: "If he is a Muslim, what exactly would be wrong with that?" "Uh, uh, let me see, well, nothing," "Then why in the world does it bother you when people call him one?"

So all this hypertensive outrage on the part of the left is just so much illogical and irrational bloviation. The reality is that they should be thrilled by the suggestion that Obama is not a Christian and thrilled by the suggestion that he is a Muslim instead.

In a similar way, the fury directed at Rudy Giuliani for his straightforward statement, "I do not believe that the president loves America," makes zero sense from a rational standpoint. After all, Obama and the entire American left blame America for virtually every evil in the world.

Obama has taken repeated apology tours to blame America for every social and economic ill anywhere and everywhere under heaven. In his view, America is a racist, slaveholding nation at its core, and is a colonizing oppressor everywhere its imprint is felt in the world. Its greed is responsible for the environmental destruction of the planet and it has gotten rich by robbing and plundering the poor nations of the world. Who in their right mind could love a nation like that?

So again, when somebody says Obama doesn't love this country, and liberals complain, the proper response should be, "If Obama doesn't love America, what exactly is wrong with that?"

"Obama is not a Christian. Obama is a secret Muslim. Obama doesn't love America." Tell me again, Mr. Liberal, why does any of that bother you? Hmmm?
