Why President Obama is a fascist

Thomas Sowell correctly complains that it is not accurate to describe President Obama as a "socialist." Socialists believe in the government ownership of the means of production, and Obama is perfectly content to leave the ownership of the means of production in private hands.

No, Sowell, writes, it's far more accurate to call President Obama a "fascist." A fascist allows you to own your business, but tells you how to run it. So under President Obama, the government CONTROLS the economy through burdensome taxes and regulations, but does not OWN it.

That's left to the poor shlubs who get up early and work late trying to make headway against stiff wind resistance from their betters in Washington at every turn.

The Competitive Enterprise Institute estimated in 2012 that regulations alone are a $1.8 trillion drag on our nation's economy, a number which is worse today than it was then as the federal government continues to churn out new regulations at a ten-pages per day clip. That $1.8 trillion figure is ten times the total of all corporate taxes collected by the IRS, and substantially higher than the total of all corporate profits. It's money down a rathole, money that that can't go into expansion, more jobs, and higher wages and instead disappears into the pockets of pencil-pushing bureaucrats hidden away in cubicles in Washington, D.C.

And according to the Tax Foundation, we now have the highest corporate tax rate in the world at 39.1%. The industrialized economies against whom we must compete have an average tax rate of 25%. Every day, every business in America opens its doors at a competitive disadvantage, created by politicians like Barack Obama.

Now one would think that President Obama would long for government to own the means of production, given his penchant for elitist control. Ah, but there is a Machiavellian madness to his method. Because he controls the economy, he can take credit for anything that goes right. But because he doesn't own it, he can blame somebody else for anything that goes wrong.

Sowell explains it this way:

What President Obama has been pushing for, and moving toward, is more insidious: government control of the economy, while leaving ownership in private hands. That way, politicians get to call the shots but, when their bright ideas lead to disaster, they can always blame those who own businesses in the private sector.

Politically, it is heads-I-win when things go right, and tails-you-lose when things go wrong. This is far preferable, from Obama's point of view, since it gives him a variety of scapegoats for all his failed policies, without having to use President Bush as a scapegoat all the time.

Government ownership of the means of production means that politicians also own the consequences of their policies, and have to face responsibility when those consequences are disastrous – something that Barack Obama avoids like the plague.
(Emphasis in original.)

We are about to see this deviousness on full display as the ongoing disaster that is ObamaCare continues to unravel. As premiums spike, access is reduced, quality of health care plummets, and more and more doctors and hospitals are discovered to be "out of network," all consequences of his misguided and misbegotten health policies, Obama can simply shrug his shoulders and say, "Not my problem. Your problem is with your private insurance carrier. Take it up with them. We told you they were greedy and uncaring. See?"

As Sowell says,

Thus the Obama administration can arbitrarily force insurance companies to cover the children of their customers until the children are 26 years old. Obviously, this creates favorable publicity for President Obama. But if this and other government edicts cause insurance premiums to rise, then that is something that can be blamed on the "greed" of the insurance companies.

So no matter what happens, he wins. And America loses. That's what happens when America elects a fascist to the highest office in the land.
