Constitution irrelevant to Obama

President Obama has absolutely no authority to declare war on Libya, which is exactly what he did by establishing the no-fly zone and sending missiles into Libya. Under any construction, bombing constitutes an act of war. But only Congress has the authority to declare war. The UN has no authority to declare war on our behalf. But the Constitution appears to be a matter of irrelevance to the Obama, who is acting more like a monarch than a president.

Obama cited the UN resolution as his excuse for war against Libya. But the UN has no authority to commit American troops to hostile engagements. Obama did not even pretend to cite the Constitution or claim authorization from Congress. This was a totally invalid, illegal and unconstitutional directive on his part. "Consulting" with members of Congress is not the same thing as Congress declaring war.

Bush was careful to go to Congress before he took military action in Iraq. He did not invade until Congress authorized military actions, which were supported by a majority of Democrats. In the Senate, 29 Democrats voted for the Iraqi war resolution and just 21 voted against it. Bush, unlike his successor, followed the Constitution.

Democrats are finally saying Obama just can't go off bombing people without authorization from Congress. Good for them. Where are the Republicans? http://ow.ly/4hX5C

The Joint Chiefs say our goals in Libya are "limited," but they can't say exactly what those goals are. Translation: they have no idea what they're doing. http://ow.ly/4iwPU

We ought to stay out of Libya — we don't have a dog in that fight. Until a US national security issue is at stake there, we have no reason or moral right to intervene.

The only justification we have to intervene in Libya would be to take out Gadhafi for authorizing the Lockerbie bombing, which took hundreds of American lives. Once Congress issues a "letter of marque and reprisal" for Gadhafi's scalp, we can — and should — take it any way we can. Blowing his compound to kingdom come with him in it would be one way.

Gadhafi called Obama a "colonial crusader" over the weekend, after tenderly calling him "my son." That'll leave a mark, because Obama hates America because of his father's bitterness over England's colonial power. England's colonial power has disappeared, but as Ramesh Ponnuru has written, Obama has simply transferred that animus to the United States. Now Gadhafi is accusing him of colonial imperialsim. Talk about a recruiting tool for Al Qaeda! http://ow.ly/4iwWg

Bush bombed Iraq on March 19, 2003. Obama bombed Libya on March 19, 2011. My question for wingers on the left: How's that "Hope and Change" working out for ya?

Compare and contrast: Obama's statement on bombing Libya with Bush's statement on invading Iraq. I see comparisons but no contrasts, other than that Bush followed the Constitution and Obama did not.

MARCH 19, 2011

OBAMA: 'Today we are part of a broad coalition. We are answering the calls of a threatened people. And we are acting in the interests of the United States and the world'...

MARCH 19, 2003

BUSH: 'American and coalition forces are in the early stages of military operations to disarm Iraq, to free its people and to defend the world from grave danger'...

Gender confusion: the women advisers to Obama (e.g., Hillary) wanted to bomb Libya back to the Stone Age. His male advisers urged restraint. But here we've always been told that men are the ones who love war, while it's women who are serene and angelic and into collegiality and everybody getting along. http://ow.ly/4i8SY

"My people — infants are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, your guides mislead you and they have swallowed up the course of your paths." ~ Isaiah 3:12

Is Obama now following Palin's advice on foreign policy? She publicly advocated establishing a no-fly zone three weeks ago. http://ow.ly/4i8Wq

Adm. Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, says our goal is not even to remove Gadhafi from power. Then what in the world are we doing there? http://ow.ly/4i9jO

The administration clearly has no objective in mind in Libya. Here's another quote from Mullen: we are "very uncertain on how this ends," and says that a total stalemate with Gadhafi is a "possibility." If you have no clear objective, how do you know when, or even if, you've won? http://ow.ly/4iydE

Here's more evidence that we have no idea what we are doing in Libya. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates said it's "unwise to set...specific goals." Translation: they're aimless, mindless and clueless. http://ow.ly/4iyHU

Air Force chief Schwartz said over the weekend that a no-fly zone in Libya won't be enough. Translation: this means boots on the ground, despite Obama's assurances to the contrary, and the shedding of American blood shed to help Al Qaeda,, which is the outfit behind the rebels. http://ow.ly/4hRaI

The Old Media is already trying to cover for Obama: According to the AP: it's all Europe's fault, they dragged him into it. http://ow.ly/4ixj2

The London Telegraph has it right: under Obama, the United States is no longer the leader of the free world. It is now a follower. http://ow.ly/4i9Z4

Gadhafi wrote Obama over the weekend, saying "you will always remain my son." Presumably he means in the Islamic faith. Muammar didn't get the memo that Barack is not a Muslim. http://ow.ly/4hRoB

Gadhafi is a bad speller's dream. There is simply no way to misspell his name. You can spell it any way you want and find it spelled that way in some official news piece.

Europe beware: Gadhafi is ending any effort to stem the flood of illegal Muslim immigrants to Europe. He's been getting beau-coups bucks to keep his own people from fleeing his tyranny for the liberty of Europe, but those days are gone. He knows how to strike back. Europe is awash in unassimilated Muslims who are ripping its cultural fabric apart. The last thing they need is another flood of impoverished, skill-less Muslims leeching off their welfare programs. http://ow.ly/4i8Pd

Whoops. Louie Farrakhan is now climbing Obama's frame over Gadhafi. If you've lost Farrakhan, you've lost the Muslims. http://ow.ly/4i8Gw

Wingers — Michael Moore, Farrakhan, Andrew Sullivan — are now dumping all over Obama on Libya, Ralph Nader is calling for his impeachment, and Moore says he ought to give his Nobel Peace prize back. Question: who's going to be left to elect him in 2012? http://ow.ly/4i9hT

Even the Washington Post has major problems with the boy president's act of war against Libya. He is rapidly running out of friends on the far left. http://ow.ly/4iIcS

Bad news from Egypt: the constitutional reforms that were backed by the Muslim Brotherhood, the only organized political force in that benighted country, got 77% of the vote. http://ow.ly/4iy2i

"Obama Go Home" signs greeted the president in Rio. He canceled a public speech and a press conference. Yep, Obama has done wonders for our image around world, just like he said he would. http://ow.ly/4i8KD

The Brazilian press says Michelle insisted on strict vegan buffets during the trip. The Obama administration is officially insisting this is not true. http://ow.ly/4hRFk

BONUS BYTES:

Japan:

Headline screams tap water "radioactive." Story itself: "tiny" amounts, "well below the tolerable limit." http://ow.ly/4i8YD

Japan lead: milk, spinach contaminated. Story itself: levels so low "no discernible risks to public health." Hype, fear. http://ow.ly/4i94V

Even AP has to sadly admit that amount of radiation reaching US "far below levels that could pose any health risks." http://ow.ly/4i99g

Headline: Japan "food safety scare." Story: "not [a] threat to human health." You'd have to drink the "contaminated" milk for a year to get the equivalent radiation of one CT scan. http://ow.ly/4ix8t

Iodine in Japan's tap water: 1/26 amount get in a chest X-ray. "Radiation levels too small to pose...health risk." http://ow.ly/4ixoS

Major concern with regard to Japan: the hype and fear-mongering will trash what's left of the US nuclear industry. We are already trailing world, getting about ready to get aced out completely. http://ow.ly/4ixC5

Politics:

Democrats hate democracy. They ran to activist judge to get her to enjoin implementation of the new Wisconsin law regarding public unions. As always, they try to get through the courts what they cannot get from the democratic process.

Wisconsin judge who ruled for unions last Friday has a son who's a former big-time union operative with AFL-CIO, SEIU. Can you say recusal? http://ow.ly/4iyLg

Wisconsin Republicans did not, I repeat did not, violate state's open meetings law. Three explicitly non-partisan offices in Wisconsin confirmed that their actions were legitimate and completely legal. http://ow.ly/4hQlP

Huge election in Wisconsin coming up on April 5 for state supreme court. The incumbent is a conservative, while his opponent has already promised public unions she will rule for them if the lawsuit gets in front of her. http://ow.ly/4hQu3

More new tone. Biden uses rape analogy, says GOP blaming the victim. Good thing Obama lectured us all about that. http://ow.ly/4hO8a

Democrats hate democracy: death threats from wingers now the new norm in Wisconsin. More of Obama's new tone I guess. http://ow.ly/4hOnh

73% of Americans don't know why we fought Civil War. This is what we're getting for our public education dollar. Public school teachers overpaid (compare their salaries to private school salaries) underachievers. http://ow.ly/4iwJC

Meltdown: CBO says Obama's deficits are going to be $2.3 trillion higher than White House is telling you. Even the Washington Post cops to this! http://ow.ly/4hQ1m

Former CBO director: Obama budget will lead to reduced US bond rating by 2018, interest on debt 20% of revenues by 2020. http://ow.ly/4hQFZ

Here's your welfare budget: 77 programs, $953 billion a year, $300 billion more than national defense. Time for a cap. http://ow.ly/4iysp

Harry Reid argues for NPR funding because he heard a dog sled story on it one time. You can't make this stuff up. http://ow.ly/4hOY

We're not only funding public broadcasting in US, we're funding it in England: sending money to the BBC. http://ow.ly/4iwYE

Pelosi has a party to celebrate first anniversary of ObamaCare, but not one top Democrat — not one! — showed up. ObamaCare is the Democrats Fukushima. It is radioactively contaminated, and the smart Democrats are trying to get as far away from the source as possible. http://ow.ly/4hQd6

Eminent domain abuse alive and well; more proof at the link. But never forget: the forced transfer of property from one private party to another is nothing more than legalized theft. http://ow.ly/4hOiX

Chevy Volt: no ambient heat. It comes with seat warmers, but your hands and feet get cold. Good luck commuting in winter, taking kids on trip. All for just $49,000! No wonder Consumer Reports says this dog is going to be a tough sell.

Obama administration says increasing domestic production of oil won't bring prices down. This is just stupid beyond belief. The moment increased drilling for domestic supplies is announced is the moment fuel prices begin to come down. http://ow.ly/4hRfA

Here's your public transportation moment of levity for the day: the CEO of Amtrak had to take a car to get to a ceremony naming a station after Joe Biden — because the train he was supposed to take broke down. http://ow.ly/4hRrB

Whoa. It turns out that wind farms kill whales. The sound of the turbines messes with their internal sonar, they beach themselves and die. http://ow.ly/4hR4E

Sexual assaults in military are up. Will only get worse with open homosexuals, because they are three times more likely to commit sexual assault, according to the Pentagon's own data. You've been warned. http://ow.ly/4hQ6c
