"It is time, Lord, for You to work, for they have made void Thy law." – Psalm 119
THIS IS THE COLUMN I was always going to write "someday." Maybe it's time. We can see the shadows lengthening. The following is excerpted from my book "Morning Medications; God's Minute Paraphrased" (you can read it for free on my Facebook page, one day at a time):
"Marvel wondrously, for I will work in your day that you will not believe, even if it were told you." – Habakkuk 1
"He will finish the work, and cut it short in righteousness, because a short work will the Lord work upon the earth." – Romans 9
"The stouthearted have slept their sleep, but at Your rebuke You caused judgment to be heard from heaven; the earth feared and was still." – Psalm 76
"While the Bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept, and at midnight there was a cry made: Behold, the Bridegroom is coming, and the virgins all woke up." – Matthew 25
"O Lord revive Your work in the midst of the years. In wrath remember mercy." Habakkuk 3
"God pours contempt upon princes and causes them to wander in the wilderness. The godly shall see it and rejoice, and all iniquity shall stop her mouth." – Ps 107
"The kings of the earth set themselves and rulers take counsel against the Lord and His anointed ones. He Who sits in the heavens shall laugh. The Lord shall have them in derision. Then He shall speak unto them in His wrath." – Psalm 2
"O Lord God of Israel, awake to visit the heathen. Swords are in their lips, for who, say they, hears? But You O Lord will laugh at them. You will have the heathen in derision." – Psalm 59
"How long you simple ones will you love stupidity, and you scorners delight in your scorning? Turn at My reproof; I will pour out My spirit unto you. I will laugh at your calamity and mock when your fear comes." – Proverbs 1
"The days of visitation are come, the days of recompence, for the multitude of your iniquities and the great hatred." – Hosea 9
"The vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak and not lie. Write the vision that he may run who reads it." Habakkuk 2
"Behold! I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful Day of the Lord, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse." – Malachi 4
P.S. God's laugh is not a "nana nana NANA" laugh. It's more like Sarah's laugh when she was told that she would have a baby at the age of 90-something. "God has made me to laugh so that all who hear may laugh with me" (Genesis 21). In other words, what will people think? By the way, "Isaac" is rooted in the word for laughter, and if you Google Jewish comedians, you will come up with a list of more than 300 of them. They have inherited Sarah's sense of humor. Her laugh wasn't a sin, but she denied laughing.
PPS: "I will send my messenger and he will prepare the way before Me, and I will be a swift witness against those who fear Me not . . Then those who feared the Lord SPOKE OFTEN with one another" (Malachi 3); think telegraph, telephone, cell phones, texting, tweeting, e-mail, podcasting, etc. It is easier now than it ever has been to "speak often" one to another!
"THEN the Lord heard it and a book of remembrance was written before Him for those who feared Him."
It could be "a book of remembrance was written BY those who feared Him." The Oxford Bible translated it "OF" them. Finally, the book of Daniel was sealed until the "time of the end," so if we understand most of Daniel's book, maybe it's time. Time for the Lord to work. They have certainly made void His law.
