"Common sense is in spite of, not the result of, education." - Victor Hugo
A book review: Thomas Sowell's "lnside American Education":
"For the first time in the history of our country, the educational skills of one generation will not surpass, will not equal, will not even approach, those of their parents." – John Copperman
"Inside American Education; the Decline, the Deception, the Dogma" was published the same year as Rush's "See, l told you so," 1993. We've been complaining for 30 years in vain. And the educrats and Academania couldn't care less what we think.
"Children do not belong to the state. They are gifts from God entrusted to their parents." – anon.
Thomas Sowell:
"Much has been said about how our kids don't meet the standards of their peers in other countries. While this is true, their academic deficiencies are only half of the story. The curriculum has been invaded by psychological conditioning programs that promote an emotionalized way of responding to challenges . .
"Worst of all, it systematically undermines the parent-child relationship."
(Again, this was written 30 years ago)!
Sowell continued,
"I am frankly surprised that the results are not even worse. The fads, fashions, and dogmas have yet to take their FULL toll, but retirement of an older generation of teachers and professors will leave the new trends (and Newspeak) as the dominant influence for generations to come."
(30 years later, we are stuck with the younger but not wiser generation of teachers)!
Sowell on "higher education":
"They have presumed to be the conscience of society and to teach ethics to others, while shamelessly overcharging the government, organizing price-fixing cartels, and leaving the teaching of undergrads to graduate assistants . . "
He continued: "Scholarly associations that had never taken a stand on political controversies before, throughout their history, have collectively become shrill partisans on many issues in recent times (and) ideological questions once considered taboo in employment interviews are now often used as litmus tests for academic appointments."
Birds of a feather flock together, so not many conservatives apply to teach at the old state university, but when they do, they are usually culled out of the process.
When it comes to sex, public schools suddenly want to "teach your children well," to coin a phrase. A parent visiting a 4th grade class was shocked at the sex "education." She asked the teacher about all the sex. The teacher said, "Well someday they're going to need that information."
Yes someday? Maybe.
P.S.
With New York City ravaged by violent crime and in the midst of a migrant crisis that is driving deep cuts to city budgets, one would think that Gotham’s city council would have plenty on its plate instead of focusing on the culture war against great Americans of the past. But that’s exactly what the Democrat-led body is doing with a crusade to cleanse city property of monuments and artwork honoring the likes of iconic former presidents George Washington and Thomas Jefferson along with Italian explorer Christopher Columbus who is credited with discovering America.
PPS: IT'S TIME TO GET MAD.
