HALELULIA, another fourth of July! This will be a short column because l broke left arm and can't type. I just want to say thanks to those who read my previous "Who stopped the rain" column. Our food supply depends on rain in due season, and we're not out of the woods yet.
SIGNS? The smoke from Canada during "Pride" month was reminiscent of the smoke that rose from Sodom. Some people missed the sign.
During the 1950s, the Pirates were not a good baseball team. They had a lot of young players. One day the 3rd base coach gave the bunt sign and the batter took a strike right down the middle. The coach called the kid over and said, "Didn't you see the sign?" And the kid says:
"Yes, but I didn't think you meant it."
The Lord is giving the world a series of signs. Most of my readers and Facebook friends agree, but most people are shaking them off like a pitcher shaking off all the catcher's signs. Lefty Gomez did that once with Jimmie Foxx at bat. The catcher went out to see what he wanted to throw. Lefty said, "l don't know; let's wait a while. Maybe he'll get a phone call."
YES, don't ignore the Signs of the Times. The Lord may be trying to reach you.
P.S. From a previous column:
When I graduated from 8th grade, two students had a 12th grade equivalency score on the final exam. About 20 rated 11th grade. If I recall, about 40 percent of the 160 rural graduates scored 10th grade or better. Most of the rest scored 9th grade equivalency. There were NONE who came in below grade level!
PPS: By the way, I was the salutatorian with a "12th grade, first month" score. At the commencement, there was an invocation and a benediction by a priest. Two of the songs that we sung were "Faith of Our Fathers" and "Battle Hymn of the Republic." That was May 26, 1956, almost exactly 67 years ago, before God, country, and phonics were pitched out the window.
