The Beltway vs. the Bible Belt: Stop the politically correct madness!
By Curtis Dahlgren
"These are farmers, the Common Clay of the Old West – you know – MORONS!" – Gene Wilder in "Blazing Saddles"
HOW DO WE STEREOTYPE PEOPLE? Let me count the ways: Blondes, church ladies, pro-lifers ("fundies"), conservative talk show hosts, people who get their hands dirty at work, and rednecks, not to mention Arkies, Okies, and Aggies (hicks in the sticks). The word "stereotype" originally referred to a block of type not yet having a letter cut into it). But what do WE know? You don't have to know a thing to be a farmer, according to Bloomberg (Mighty Mike). Chances of being elected President by putting down the people who make the country run are like a snow ball's chance in the Kalihari Desert.
"What farmer, what mechanic, what laborer ever sees a tax gatherer of the United States?" – Thomas Jefferson, second inaugural address (he had abolished all internal federal taxes, but had been viciously attacked by the printed press). He pushed back, like Trump:
"During the course of my administration, the artillery of the press has been leveled against us, whatsoever its licentiousness could devise or dare. These abuses of an institution so important to freedom and science are deeply to be regretted, inasmuch as they tend to lesson its usefulness and to sap its safety . .
"Our wish as well as theirs is that the public efforts may be directed honestly to the public good, that peace be cultivated . . law and order preserved, equality of rights be maintained, and that state of property, equal or unequal, which results to every man from his own industry or that of his father's [be respected] . .
"I shall need, too, the favor of that Being in whose hands we are, who led our fathers, as Israel of old, from their native land and planted them in a country flowing with all the necessaries of life . . . "
WITHOUT QUESTION, yellow journalism today is the worst ever seen in the last 215 years. All pretense of truthfulness has been discarded by the media, both entertainment and news media. Not that big government and high taxes don't go back thousands of years to Nehemiah's time (455 BC):
"We have mortgaged our lands, vineyards, and houses . . There were also some who said, 'We borrowed money our our lands for the king's tribute, so other men now have our real estate.'" Nehemiah said:
"I was very angry when I heard their cry, and I rebuked the nobles, and the [elites] and said unto them , 'We have redeemed our brethren the Jews [from Babylon] who were sold unto the heathen; and will you now sell your own brethren?' Then they held their peace and had nothing to say in answer. From that day I was appointed to be their governor."
Almost sounds like 2016 when the good Lord gave us relief from the elites inside the Beltway and Foggy Bottom who mock us in the Outback. And what did the President get? An impeachment still in search of a reason! Like they say:
"No good deed goes unpunished."
P.S. In his book "One Nation," Dr. Ben Carson writes: "People who try to manipulate public opinion are much more effective when they appear to present new information to people who should have already known the subject matter. They also like to make accusations against their enemies, repeating them loudly and often with the hope that people will begin to believe them. They know that even though they frequently need to retract those accusations, they can print retractions weeks later on the bottom of page 23 of the newspaper."
IN OTHER WORDS, be informed, don't believe everything you read or hear, and push back – like Nehemiah did (and as Trump did). The "experts" never saw that coming, just like they never saw the fall of the Berlin Wall coming. In 2020, few people see an end to political correctness, but Dr. Carson concludes his book:
"Who knows what tomorrow holds for each of us and for our nation? We have no time to waste. Today is the day to act. Resolve to take one step toward helping our nation return to greatness. If we all do so, we cannot fail to remain 'one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
PPS: Carson says: "As Americans, we have a heritage of Judeo-Christian morality. Let's remember who we are and unite around the vision dictated by our identity." Talk to friends, family, and associates. If you are too chicken to talk "politics and religion," tell those who disagree that we may be just looking at the opposite sides of the same coin. And tell the demagogues:
"If you have to lie about your opposition, it won't turn out very well when it all comes to fruition."
