Pray NC, a grassroots movement dedicated to spiritual awakening through collective prayer, held a powerful gathering at the North Carolina State Legislature on March 25, bringing together lawmakers, pastors, and believers from across the state. The event was marked by an extraordinary moment of unity as various members of both the House and Senate led in prayer, seeking divine wisdom and guidance for the state and nation.
Among those invited to lead in prayer was Rev. Mark Creech, head of government relations for Return America. His prayer, deeply rooted in biblical truth, stirred the hearts of those in attendance. Many who witnessed the moment said his words profoundly moved them.
Rev. Creech’s full prayer was as follows:
Heavenly Father,
We come before You today in humility and gratitude, seeking Your wisdom as we labor in this place of governance. You are the source of all justice, truth, and righteousness, and we acknowledge that no law, decree, or authority stands above Your own.
You have given us Your commandments as a foundation for a just and moral society:
You have commanded us to have no other gods before You. May we never be given to practical atheism, living as though You do not exist or as though Your authority does not reign over us. Instead, may we acknowledge You in all our ways, humbly seeking Your will, trusting in Your benevolent sovereignty, and shaping our nation according to the truths You have revealed to us in Your Holy Word – the Bible.
You have commanded us not to make idols. May we never elevate a person, a party, power, wealth, or influence above You. May we remember that You alone are our Savior, our hope, and the source of justice, righteousness, and human flourishing.
You have commanded us not to take Your name in vain. May we speak with reverence of all that is holy, honoring with both our lips and our lives the values that are eternal. May we never mock or diminish what You have declared sacred, but uphold Your truth with the respect and devotion it deserves.
You have commanded us to remember the Sabbath and keep it holy. May we never become so consumed by our work that we forget to rest—setting aside at least one day out of seven to put down our own business and devote ourselves to Your business.
You have commanded us to honor our fathers and mothers. May we respect those who came before us and build a future worthy of their sacrifices.
You have commanded us not to murder. O Lord, may we defend the sanctity of life in all its forms, from the womb to old age.
You have commanded us not to commit adultery. May we uphold the sacredness of marriage and sexual purity in our relationships.
You have commanded us not to steal. May we act with honesty in all our dealings, rejecting corruption, greed, and exploitation. Guard us against the many ways our culture promotes theft—whether through dishonesty in business, fraud in government, or policies that take from one unjustly to benefit another. May we instead foster a society of fairness, generosity, and personal responsibility, where hard work is honored and integrity upheld.
You have commanded us not to bear false witness. May the truth prevail in our words and judgments, not just partial truth, but the whole truth.
You have commanded us not to covet. May we cultivate contentment and gratitude, trusting in Your provision.
Lord, these commands are not restrictions, but gifts—offering a path of peace and prosperity. If we are to build a strong and enduring nation, we must first build a people of strong character.
And so, Father, we turn our eyes to Your Son, Jesus Christ, who perfectly embodied these commandments in word and deed. He was the fulfillment of the law, the light of the world, the servant King who humbled Himself to lift up the broken and bring salvation. Though He had power, He chose humility. Though He was righteous, He bore the burden of sin. Though He was Lord of all, He came to serve and give His life to others.
May those who govern here seek to follow His example—leading with integrity, serving with humility, and making decisions that reflect righteousness rather than expediency. May they fear You more than they fear man, uphold what is right even when it is unpopular, and labor not for personal gain or political advantage but for the good of the people and the glory of Your name.
Where there is division, let there be unity grounded in truth. Where there is confusion, let there be clarity rooted in Your wisdom. Where there is strife, let there be peace, not at the expense of principle, but through the pursuit of love demonstrated in righteousness.
And Lord, remind us that our lives are but a vapor, here for a moment and gone the next. All things earthly are fleeting. Help us to remember daily that our focus must not be so consumed by this life that we forget to prepare or live in light of the next.
We ask this in the name of our Savior and King, Jesus Christ.
Amen.
Pray NC was founded on the belief that revival in the Church and a spiritual awakening in the broader culture is essential for the health of North Carolina and the nation. The movement began in 2017 when God placed a burden on the heart of Tonya Skelly to hold a city-wide prayer gathering in response to rising violence, racism, and drug use. What started as a single event has since grown into a statewide movement, with prayer gatherings in all 100 North Carolina counties.
Since its inception, Pray NC has united churches, ministries, and individuals in prayer, asking God to bring healing, righteousness, and renewal to the state. Their vision is based on John 17:21-23, where Jesus prayed for believers to be unified, and II Chronicles 7:14, which calls for repentance and turning to holiness.
In August 2022, Pray NC held its first large-scale event in Raleigh on the Capitol steps, followed by another in October 2023, where people from all over North Carolina gathered to pray. As the movement enters its eighth year, Pray NC continues to expand, seeking to see every county hold monthly community prayer gatherings.
With a firm belief that collective prayer can transform hearts and communities, Pray NC remains committed to its mission: to glorify God through unity in prayer and to seek revival throughout North Carolina and beyond.
