Truth and freedom under attack in America

Though those in politics may say that abortion is a right, we all know what it truly is – an act of murder that takes the life of an innocent child.

Two days ago the United States House of Representatives voted 245 to 182 to pass the Conscience Protection Act "to prevent governmental discrimination against providers of health services who decline involvement in abortion, and for other purposes."

You might wonder why a need exists for such a proposal. I will attempt to address that question as simply as I can.

First and foremost, though the act of abortion is an act that results in the killing of an innocent person, the politics have overtaken this simple truth. And it is an undeniable truth – one made known by Bernard Nathanson, MD., once an infamous abortionist, in the historic film entitled The Silent Scream. In this film, viewers see firsthand the horror of abortion. They see a tiny baby futilely attempt to live, only to have his life snuffed out by the abortionist. This sobering film leaves no doubt that abortion kills.

Further, according to human embryology and basic biological information about a human being's DNA, it cannot be denied that intentionally aborting an individual is a cruel act that results in death. A human being exists from his very beginning. This is why we often describe abortion as an act of terrorism against the most vulnerable people in our midst.

If we lived in a morally sound society, no one would question these facts. But we do not.

In addition to these facts, the president of the United States has a history of pressing hard to challenge a Christian's right under the First Amendment to refuse to participate in any way in an abortion, no matter how that abortion is accomplished. The most recent example of his infatuation with the idea that Christians should put their faith in their pockets and do as he instructs occurred in California, which recently imposed a mandatory abortion coverage rule on Catholic institutions. In response, the Obama administration sided with the state of California. Not willing to stay silent, Catholic bishops spoke out and said: "Leaders with the U.S. bishops' conference said it was 'shocking' that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services allowed the State of California to force all employers, including churches, to fund and facilitate elective abortions."

Thus the vote in the House of Representatives this week. And of course, as usual, the White House made a statement, saying in part: "This bill would unduly limit women's health care choices by allowing a broadly-defined set of health providers (including secular sponsors of employer-based health coverage) to decline to provide abortion coverage based on any objections. The legislation would also permanently authorize alternative methods of enforcing these provisions that would inevitably lead to confusion."

This language is defined as Obama doublespeak. The administration loves abortion to the point of despising the guarantee of conscience rights for those who oppose it.

It is clear that there is no end to the difficulties that Obama and his cronies can create in order to advance their agenda pretending to avoid the obvious truth that aborting a baby is a criminal act that defies reason and common sense. Like so many others, they have relegated the act of abortion to a mere "political issue." That alone dehumanizes babies and insults the Creator of those babies.

This will not stop until we stop it.

The American public needs a wake-up call. Christians need to stand tall and start making that call – loud and clear.

We are the watchman mentioned in Ezekiel in this deadly age of moral depravity.

We are the ones called by God to tell the truth. Let us go forth and speak it.
