Baby body parts and the political value of truth
By Judie Brown
Are our elected leaders listening to us? Do they have our best interests in mind, or do they just want to keep the peace politically?
"Obama Administration Gives $1 Million to Planned Parenthood in the Wake of Baby Parts Scandal" reads a headline on the Live Action website. What a horror!
According to a report in the Washington Times, Live Action states, "Even in the midst of scandal, Planned Parenthood locations in Iowa, Missouri and Montana have been given more than $1 million in federal grants. These funds are to assist customers who wish to sign up for Obamacare – further proof of the strong connection between Planned Parenthood and the president."
The Times reports that "Republicans blasted the funding, saying it was a particular affront at a time when Planned Parenthood is facing intense questions over its practices involving the handling and sale of fetal tissue."
But wait a darned minute, please! Let's all step back and take a reality check here.
Fact #1: The Center for Medical Progress has issued NINE videos thus far and they have come to the public's attention at the rate of one per week. This means that for over eight weeks this scandal has been building on the storyline that Planned Parenthood clinics, in collaboration with bio-tech middlemen like StemExpress, have been selling baby body parts from children killed by abortion.
Eight weeks. Count them.
Fact #2: Over these eight weeks the videos have received wide-ranging attention by Fox News, plus a host of other media outlets, many of which actually attempted to debunk the facts. Still, as David Daleiden has stated and documented over and over again, including providing background history on the CMP website, there is nothing taken out of context. There is nothing over-emphasized or fictionally portrayed. As a matter of fact, the reports speak for themselves.
Fact #3: Apparently it is wrong to conclude that all Republicans, most of whom claim they are pro-life, have seen these videos and been outraged by them to the point where definitive action would be taken. Investigations are allegedly being carried out, but nothing has been done to cut off Planned Parenthood funding. Nothing!
Am I being judgmental? Should American Life League point the bloody finger of guilt regarding government support for an organization that deals in dead babies' body parts only at President Obama and let the Democrats and Republicans in both houses of Congress off the hook?
No!
And here is why! For those who do not follow the political scene as well as some leadership in the pro-life movement, you may be shocked to learn that both Speaker of the House John Boehner and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell have not used their influence and their positions to publicly proclaim the disdain taxpayers have for funding Planned Parenthood and committed publicly to do all within their power to end funding for the organization.
Politico reports that Boehner "twice stopped short of declaring the House would cut off all government funding to Planned Parenthood, and said he would rely on the results of a pair of congressional investigations to guide his decision."
McConnell commented, "We just don't have the votes to get the outcome that we'd like."
In view of the bloodcurdling facts revealed in the CMP videos and the documentation that they present to the public, it is obvious that elected officials are blinded by politics.
Bottom line: Obama is the enemy we know, yet there are hidden enemies among the politicians some think are pro-life! Which ones are worse?
In politics, truth has no value. And that's a fact.
