A train will blow its whistle in the wide-open spaces for several reasons. The whistle can be heard at a range of 1 to 3 miles under normal conditions. But, when the train approaches a crossing, it becomes far more active. It will use short and long blasts in combination to warn those approaching the crossing.

Those involved with teaching and writing about Biblical prophecy are blasting their horns today in an unprecedented manner. There is a lot of noise being made for the best of all reasons.

This train is near.

With so few signs remaining to be fulfilled, it is the difference between walking securely into your future or crashing head-on into it, with little chance of escape.

There are many kinds of biblical prophecy, including pre-, mid-, and post-exilic, Messianic, and premillennial.

Which One Are You?

Then along come those who are prophecy watchers, prophecy experts, and the prophets themselves.

Prophecy watchers are those who gather all the information they can starting with the Bible and adding the best teachers of prophecy as the time progresses.

Prophecy experts are those who have made a lifetime of the study of eschatology their business. Unfortunately, some of them have made a business of all that study. Often their best messages are for sale in all kinds of media outlets, and the poor students may have to get their best secondhand.

Then come the prophets themselves. The first is the ancient Bible prophets of old. Then the New Testament prophets, and finally, the modern prophets, if you believe they still exist.

The part of the Christian church that claims there are no modern prophets is called cessationists. They create this belief by stretching certain verses of the New Testament to extreme and highly spurious conclusions.

One example is found in their interpretation of 1 Corinthians 13:8:

“Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.”

If prophecy is going to cease, shouldn’t knowledge have also ceased?

There is no legitimate answer to this question coming from the cessationists; that is why this is hermeneutical silliness on the highest level.

God supplies us with people and their respective offices and gifts according to his own sovereign will. He does not allow us to pick and choose those we accept or deny.

Ephesians 4:11 says, “And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers.”

The cessationists say, thank God, but apostles have already come, prophets are out, and we will take a few of the rest as we see fit.

There are very few prophets in our world today who have been assigned or called to broadcast specific events. After more than fifty years studying eschatological doctrine, I can say that I can only name a small handful of prophets with that kind of calling.

That is soon about to change.

But, before addressing that change, it does well to say that there are untold hundreds of men and women, perhaps thousands, practicing prophecy under the full and obvious meaning of one of the simplest but profound verses of scripture.

“And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” (Rev. 19:10)

It is time to bury the argument and get on with testifying about the love of Jesus. You can call yourself whatever you like, but that spirit of prophecy will be the prophetic message that may save someone’s future for all eternity.

Preacher, prophet, or ordinary person—you have been called.

Coming: Two Prophets, to Stun the Entire World

God does things in dispensations, which are easily discernible patterns. He is ordered, and he arranges events so we can follow along with what he is accomplishing for certain periods of time. Creation, law, grace the church age are just a few we could name. But there is an overriding factor working in everything he does. That fact is known as sovereignty.

Basically, that means God can and does insert anything he chooses into the dispensation of the moment. Nothing and no one can ever remove his right to do exactly what he pleases, at any given moment.

Smack into the middle of our neat little cessationist world, God inserts what might be the two most powerful prophets of all time.

There are many who believe that these two giants of the faith are alive today and waiting in the wings. I am among them.

Here’s a peek.

“And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.” (Rev. 11:3)

For the rest of the story, you can read all of Revelation chapter eleven. There you will find two who have the power of fire, plagues, and worldwide disturbances on the tip of their tongues. Also on the tip of their tongues is the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.

It is the last 3.5 years on earth before the great judgment against the kingdoms and nations on the planet. They cannot be stopped until they are finished, and then the Antichrist emerges against them and has them killed.

All is not lost.

They are resurrected before the eyes of the whole world and ascend to God as all eyes are upon them.

God provides prophets, miracles, judgment, and resurrections one last time for all those who glibly proclaimed that seeing is believing.

Is seeing believing? In fact, we all know it is not. Now is the acceptable time to put our faith in God. Don’t wait for some once-in-a-lifetime boon or vacation to some paradise on earth. Change your citizenship, your family, and your entire future today. Here is your personal invitation.
