JERRY NEWCOMBE — What’s that book those presidents swear in on every four years? Of course, it’s the Bible. Is it just a prop, or is there meaning to that tradition? One of the great religious liberty groups in our day is First Liberty, founded by Kelly Shackelford and based in the Dallas area. First Liberty is fighting the good fight on behalf of our nation’s first liberty, religious liberty—in the courts of the land and in the courts of public opinion.... (more)

But his focus is the 2024 White House race
BOB UNRUH — One politically historic event already has happened this week: The Republicans removed their own speaker of the U.S. House. And it's possible a second historic event could be in the offing: Installing President Donald Trump as the next speaker. It's because of the open position, which the GOP plans to address as early as next week, and the constitutionally open door that actually would allow Trump to take the top seat in the U.S. House.... FOX NEWS — DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is citing an "acute and immediate need" to waive dozens of federal laws to build a border wall in south Texas where illegal migration has surged. It's a sharp contrast to dismissals of the use of such barriers in the early days of the administration. The agency posted an announcement on the U.S. Federal Register that outlines construction in Starr County in the Rio Grande Valley Sector, where the administration says there is "high illegal entry." The agency says there have been over 245,000 migrant encounters in the sector this fiscal year.... (more)

Says Westerners need to ‘transcend their petty interests’ that are causing the earth to emit ‘cries of protest’
WORLDNETDAILY — Pope Francis called on “irresponsible” Western nations Wednesday to implement a “broad” lifestyle switch to halt the advance of climate change, according to a letter from the Vatican. In his Apostolic Exhortation, Francis discussed the “suffering” of the planet and warned that the world is “collapsing” due to “extreme weather phenomena, frequent periods of unusual heat, drought and other cries of protest on the part of the earth,” according to the letter. The pope went on to say that the U.S. emissions per capita were “two times greater” than China and argued that the “irresponsible lifestyle” of the West needed to be reigned in.... (more)

First U.S. House speaker to be ousted
AP NEWS — Speaker Kevin McCarthy was voted out of the job Tuesday in an extraordinary showdown — a first in U.S. history, forced by a contingent of hard-right conservatives and throwing the House and its Republican leadership into chaos. It’s the end of the political line for McCarthy, who has said repeatedly that he never gives up, but found himself with almost no options remaining. Neither the right-flank Republicans who engineered his ouster nor the Democrats who piled on seem open to negotiating.... (more)

WORLDNETDAILY — As abortion rights are being heatedly debated across the nation in the wake of the Supreme Court decision that overturned Roe v. Wade, Democratic socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has suggested that it is better for families to destroy the lives of their unborn babies than it is to struggle economically. “Abortion rights are a class struggle too,” the New York congresswoman tweeted last week.... THE FEDERALIST — The corporate news media all but refused to cover the opening hearing of the House impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden on Thursday, and to the extent they did, it was only to repeat, at the behest of the White House, the exhausted mantra that there’s “no evidence” connecting Biden to his son Hunter’s international bribery scheme.... 'Keep it down in there'
FOX NEWS — The Biden administration announced its latest regulatory action targeting home appliances late Friday, this time targeting popular home gas-powered furnaces. The Department of Energy (DOE) said the energy efficiency regulations would slash household utility costs by $1.5 billion on an annual basis while reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the residential sector. The proposal, according to the agency, require non-weatherized gas furnaces and those used in mobile homes to achieve a far higher level of efficiency than cheaper models on the market.... (more)

PETER LEMISKA — Democrat politicians endlessly warn us about the “threat to our democracy” posed by Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans. Of course, that claim is patently absurd on two fronts. Dershowitz has said that two of the most unpopular people he has defended were O.J. Simpson and Jeffrey Epstein, but neither compares to his defense of Donald Trump. 'A kind of social engineering is at play'
BOB UNRUH — A major study shows that dozens of major school districts cross the nation have biases in their teaching hiring procedures, making sure that leftist ideologies are embedded in their classrooms. The study from the National Opportunity Project said its findings "raise serious legal questions in the wake of the Supreme Court's decision outlawing race-based college admissions. Employment policies in K-12 public schools that consider race, creed, and political ideology and are infused with biased language and decision-making processes unfairly, and sometimes illegally, skew hiring in favor of certain candidates."... BOB UNRUH — It was Francis Collins, who was Joe Biden's director of the National Institutes of Health, who demanded a "swift and devastating takedown" when experts in the field of medicine suggested that the Biden administration's lockdowns, shutdowns, social distancing and masking demands weren't really needed to deal with COVID-19.
